Could mention his name meens 'Freedom' in Czech. Jackiespeel 18:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

He was born with the name, it's not like a nickname or something. 90% of Czech names mean something. I don't think it's particularly useful to translate them all literally. - TheMightyQuill 01:56, 24 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Agree with this (I just removed "Svoboda = Freedom" next to his name), it seems entirely irrelevant and trivial to translate names. Surprisingly I didn't have to remove "Husák = Goose" from the next president's article. - filelakeshoe 22:36, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Husák do not mean "Goose", but Goose-keeper, like this: http://www.fotohanc.com/albums/people/Pastevec_0341.JPG

Goose is "husa" --Teplice, Ústecko (talk) 15:19, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Ludvik svoboda.jpg edit

Image:Ludvik svoboda.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some suggestions edit

I think it would have helped to specify that Klement Gottwald's "exile leadership" referred to the leadership of the Communist Party, rather than to the leadership of the Czechoslovak government in exile in London, headed by Edvard Benes. Svoboda's relationship with the Benes government was often difficult, but he was kept on at Soviet insistence.

Also Svoboda wasn't demoted and imprisoned because of Soviet pressure. In fact Stalin enquired about Svoboda, expressed surprise at his predicament, and ordered his release. DRhistorybuff (talk) 13:28, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
