This article definitely needs to be rewritten. The region (Lore in Georgian) historically belonged to Georgia and after Georgian-Armenian War 1918 because of known facts of english, russian and turkish influence became the part of Armenia. Look at the map of Russian empire 1828-1840 from the Wikipedia article about Armenia: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3a/ArmenianOblast.jpg Other historical references will be provided soon! I cleaned-up this article a bit. It is difficult to say that Lori was a "historical region of Georgia" or a "historical region of Armenia" because, historically, it was always disputed between both nations, being part of the Armeno-Georgian marchlands. In any case, it doesn't matter because this article is not describing a historical region, but a present-day province of Armenia which is not claimed by Georgia.
If anything, Wikipedia should be a place for cooperation among nations and people, not a place for nationalism and/or irredentism. Mqinvartsveri (talk) 12:51, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Georgian name edit

"the province was under Georgian political control for several centuries. Visit the area and you'll find dozens of Georgian inscriptions there"

This article is about the province of the Republic of Armenia, where Armenia is the sole official language. See Samtskhe-Javakheti. Samtskhe-Javakheti is a province of Georgia. Georgian is the sole official language of the country therefore the Armenian name is not included in the lead, even though the majority of its population is Armenian. --Երևանցի talk 04:27, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

What about Javakheti? Should we also remove the Armenian name from that article? --KoberTalk 04:30, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Javakheti is a historic region and not a modern province. And I'm in full support of having the Georgian name of Gugark in the lead. --Երևանցի talk 04:33, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I see. Would agree to have a Georgian name in the History of the Lori Province article?--KoberTalk 05:59, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Why not just expand this article like Syunik and include the Georgian name in the history section? --Երևանցի talk 21:51, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Let's give it a try. I'm currently in the process of gathering and reconciling the sources. --KoberTalk 17:56, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I'll try to find reliable source as well. --Երևանցի talk 18:52, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
OK. I took the initiative and created the history section. Right now it briefly summarizes the history of Lori. Please add anything that you find important. --Երևանցի talk 23:55, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
