What belongs

Is Speed Racer sci-fi because the "powerful Mach Five" had such amazing features? How about Batman (Batmobile, Batcave)?

Kinda on the edge there... if Batman is sci-fi, James Bond is equally so: a guy who happens to have some neat gadgets. As a lifelong sci-fi fan, I'd be very reluctant to include Batman (or Bond) as "science fiction" per se, though I can see a relation. I'm not so familiar with Speed Racer, can't comment there. --Brion VIBBER

Take the requirement as the programme being either entirely based or having a vital concept based in science fiction. Neither Batman or Bond fall into this category. Almost all of the the programmes listed at the moment are entirely scifi, with the exception of Mork&Mindy, 3rd Rock and Goodnight Sweethart, all of which have plot lines which are vitally dependant on scifi. --Imran

Including superhero shows as sci-fi makes this list mostly useless as a list to reference. I'd like to see the list without them, as well as seeing an alphabetical list without any comedy mixed in. Sure, Alf, Mork and Uncle Martin are aliens, and the kid in Little Wonder is a robot, but that really doesn't automatically put them in the same category as space opera shows, for instance. Shouldn't Highlander and Highlander: the Raven technically be fantasy and not science fiction?

Grouping

Wouldn't it be more reasonable to list series by, say, decade, than their sci-fi gimmick? - Seth Ilys 21:28, 27 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I think it would be good idea to add a year when show was running and when it ended. like Dark Skies [1996-1997] or something like this. and than organize inside each genre by year, and not randomly like now... QuantumShadow 22:09, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

deletions

CSI does not belong here. I am deleting it - Prospero

Captain America does not belong here under Superhumans - not because the character does not fit that term, but rather because the character has had no TV PROGRAM. Captain America DID have two TV-movies, but no ongoing series. If you include it just on the basis of the TV-movies, then one might as well add in Superpup, the Doctor Strange TV-movie, the Generation X TV-movie and so forth.

Removed Gormenghast - the third book arguably had steampunk elements, but it wasn't part of the TV movies.

How about adding Kolchack: The Night Stalker to this page under the catagory "Paranormal Investigations"? It predates the others on the list and some of those shows listed even credit Kolchack:The Night Stalker as their inspiration. The shows premise where a reporter behaves like a detective while investigating vampires,werewolves and the like makes it a perfect fit for this catagory. The 1970's television series is also fondly remembered and has a cult following. Wikipedia already has an article on Kolchak:The Night Stalker that just needs to be linked to this site. The article can be linked in the Yahoo Web page on the Show.

A lot that don't belong

I think some pranksters have altered this article. 24 is not science fiction. I think the same, but I'm hesitant to delete anything as I'm only a casual browser, and I'm aware that folk's definitions of what is and isn't S-F differ, plus TV and movie SF has almost never been as rigorously 'scientific' as the real (ie written) thing. A goodly amount of the shows on this list appear to me to be either super-hero or fantasy. Deleted (more) shows that don't belong

I keep finding lots of paranormal, super/supra-natural, fantasy [easily confused sometimes], and even horror + thriller TV shows/minis/films/cartoons under the science fiction category. I took the liberty [and a huge amount of time], and cleaned up this page a bit. ;) Also, what this page still needs, is more sci-fi cartoons/anime/animation shows/films/ovas/shorts/etc, which [if I find enough spare time 1 sunny day ;)], I'll try to add from the existent listings, and add others I know of. Oh, and I'm going to start a new Cyberpunk (sub)category.

Organization, layout + more shows

I found this page in dire need of organizing and more shows to be added. Found some time and...

• re-organized layout, genres.
• added many more sub-genres + shows: live-action (series + film), animated + anime.
• added many more lists + categories.
• added templates: sidebar, index, bottom index + bottom portal.

Listing and Tables

Would it not be easier to read, and thus also edit out anything unnecessary (like those pesky spy shows), if everything was condensed into a arrangeable table? (How would one even attempt such a large task?) Fitzydog (talk) 23:44, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
