Should this be standardized with the other lists of monarchs of the Heptarchy by capitalizing the Anglo-Saxon/Latin names? I would myself, but there is a discrepancy - here it says "Angliæ Orientalis", but for Essex (East Seaxe), it has "SAXONVM ORIENTALIVM". So, should it be Orientalis or Orientalium? --Golbez 01:33, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

It is intended that the page (and others) should to be brought to the standard as you rightly point out (minuscule having not been developed at the time). As for the latin, the only web-source I can find is http://www.lettres.fundp.ac.be/histoire/h2224_e.htm#Edmundus01 which mentions "Angliæ Orientalis", and I am trying to find some corroboration either way. --JohnArmagh 05:44, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't see why the names should be written in all caps. As you note, the miniscule/majescule distinction hadn't emerged yet; so if you're using some ancient source which is in all caps that was explicitly not a conscious decision and so there's no reason for us in this page to consciously adopt this affectation.

As for the orientalis/orientalium: I can't tell by the above discussion whether the two of you don't know Latin and are discussing the proper form; or whether you do know Latin and are discussing the proper formula. If the former, I'd be happy to explain; if the latter, I have to say that I doubt we should assume modern precision of formula in that era. Things were much more flexible then. Raedwald

According to this page, Raedwald lived and reigned until 617. But there seems to be some discrepancy, as according to Raedwald of East Anglia and Bretwalda, Raedwald lived and reigned until 627. Two Aethelreds?

The list containts two Aethelreds with different dates for each, but both end up pointing to the same destination article. I assume these are two different kings?

Guthrum II?

There's only one Guthrum on the list of East Anglian rulers in the Blackwell Encyclopedia of Anglo-Saxon England. The list ends with Eohric. There's only one Guthrum in the index to Swanton's Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. The Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England had another Guthrum, this one, but his floruit is under Æthelstan. The old source tell something like: 916 king Guthrum died. And it is perhaps all we know about he. You can as a historian opt for between sure and unreliable informations, but the weakness by wikipedia is the amateurs have need to include all informations.Haabet 04:04, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Several references note Guthrum II, such as Ashley (Mammoth Book of British Kings & Queens, p466-467), Lappenburg (A History of England Under the Anglo-Saxon Kings p87) and Walker (Mercia and the making of England, p110), and he is also noted in Kessler's History Files, Nash Ford's EBK site and Britannia.com. I have yet to see any primary source as yet, and have just noted that there is now a Guthrum II page. I extrapolated the contemporary title, please feel free to delete if it is not appropriate - after all, it is a wiki site for experts and amateurs alike.
