Taxus edit

Technically this is not a fruit. Only Angiosperms have fruit. Nadiatalent (talk) 21:22, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ah! you are correct. I added the item because they would be seen as fruit in the eyes of the average layperson, and if someone were trying to survive in the woods, and was nearby a yew, better they know not to eat them. I would vote for not having it removed on those grounds, but as I am one of those laypersons, perhaps you could suggest a suitable re-phrase (?) Glad you saw it, Hamamelis (talk) 05:54, 13 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'm a Wikipedia noob, so not sure how exactly to edit these talk pages correctly, but in addition to the above, the yew berries are in fact not poisonous, but fully edible and sweet-tasting. It's all other parts of the tree which are poisonous, including the seeds of the berries. Thus if you're trying to survive in the woods, eating the yew berries would be excellent for your survival prospects. As also pointed out the yew berry is not a fruit, but rather an aril, also known as a false fruit. As such, it's somewhat strange to include the berries in a page of inedible fruits, when it's neither inedible nor a fruit!
