Lincoln County, Maine? edit

This article indicates that Lincoln County, South Dakota is named after Lincoln County, Maine, rather than after President Abraham Lincoln. I suppose anything's possible, but I find that EXTREMELY unlikely. KevinOKeeffe (talk) 23:36, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Well, I did a little research into the matter, and I found indications that it really is named after Lincoln County, Maine. Ostensibly because Wilmot Brookings was born there. In reality, he was born in Woolwich, which is located in Sagadahoc County, Maine. But its right next to Lincoln County, and I suspect that Brookings may have regarded himself as being "from" Lincoln County (Maine), despite being technically born in nearby Woolwich.
