Removal of images. edit

The images that were on this article were generic ones for the entire series. Wikipedia's fair use guideline requires that fair use images illustrate a portion of the text, and these were just decorative. If screenshots from the specific episodes can be provided, that would be acceptable, though.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 20:27, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

To the editor who reverted my edit: I've put it back. Using fair use images as placeholders is unacceptable. If you truly feel placeholder images are needed, feel free to use Image:No Screenshot.svg.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 19:16, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The matter is simply that you are of the opinion that the use of the placeholder images are wrong/not fair use etc but the true fact is that it has been this way since November 16th,which by the way was when I (JMGWiki) completely overhauled this page from its unfinished humble beginning to an attractive and informative list. Nobody before you has had a problem and I'm sure many prefer it the other way. The page in it's current form(before your edit) is how i intended it to look and i will not be swayed by one persons opinion.there are far more important issues to be dealing with than whether we are using the images 'fairly'...each contain a valid fair use rationale and if you're so concerned about this layout, take it up with the prison break episode list admins, i'm sure they'd love to hear it as they also use 'generic placeholders' for unscreened episodes and was the inspiration for this page due to it's pleasant appearance. If encyclopaedia are to be used for information only then would it be fair to summarize that the use of the wikipedia logo itself it in fact not fair use, due to its misleading depiction of the earth..surely such a thing can only be considered 'decorative'. So in conclusion, the use of the images doesn't hurt anyone, you are included.this page is maintained by me and any constructive additions are welcome by others and indeed there have been improvements but the removal of the pages contents constitutes vandalism which is motivated by opinion,it could also be argued that each and every episode DOES infact include these screens given that they are in the title sequence. The page is fine...let it be. thanks.--JMGWiki (talk)

First off, accusing other people of vandalism is a serious charge, so please consider more before you do that. Also, please review WP:OWN: the fact that you do a lot of work on this list, while admirable, doesn't give you any special rights regarding it. Also, that the issue was never raised before doesn't matter, its being raised now. Now, then, let's just look at the fair use policy, ok?
Criteria number nine: The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose.
You yourself have said that these are placeholders. That's simply not allowed. The only significance of those images, the only thing they tell you, is that the episodes are part of the series. That's just not enough to justify the use of a fair use image. Furthermore, if another list uses generic images in such a way, that one is wrong, too.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 21:29, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
As I'm sure you understand I'm not going to participate in an online flame war, opinions are opinions and everyone has a right to their own. I read and understand the FU Policy,by the way you will find it to be criteria #8 as opposed to #9, I'm here on Wikipedia to add to the overall content, so it's fun and informative, I'm not lowering myself to the depths of the internet grammar/encyclopaedic Nazi's which lurk menacingly on all major web forums. There is no legal risk to wikipedia or the general public through the use of the images, they are sub-standard quality(Is a web resolution screencap),clearly labeled that it is a copyrighted image and the use "Does not limit owner's ability to distribute episode in any way". And i quote from the wikipedia created license governing such images "It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots for identification and critical commentary on the station ID or program and its contents qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law."
So although I don't deny that you believe you are correct, I also believe that I have a valid point. I do intend to replace the screens with more informative images but at the same time I do not want the article compromised in the interim period. As for the vandalism claim,I'm sure you realise that it was not directed at you per se rather an observation at the current state of the article. The definition of vandalism being "The willful or malicious destruction, injury, disfigurement, or defacement of any public or private property, real or personal, without consent of the owner or person having control", Now as you've pointed out, neither of us do have ownership of this public article so without an owner to accept our changes, every edit constitutes vandalism be it me,you or anyone else editing it. Again it's simply a case of preference whether the change is a welcome addition. Personally I don't understand why you want to change the article, neither of us are getting the Nobel price for literature by editing Wikipedia articles. I'm online so I can enjoy myself and use up some spare time adding to a list i enjoyed creating. Is it too much to ask that you allow me to still enjoy my creation without arguing,thanks.--JMGWiki (talk) 22:10, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Whoops, you're right, it is eight, my mistake. Now then, in everything you've said, I've still yet to see an explanation for how these images meet the criteria, merely attempts to shrug the situation off. If you're going to use a non-free image, it does need to meet those criteria, bottom line. If you think those requierments are too strict (as some do), you can raise the issue on the talk page there, but until and unless their changed, this page does need to comply with them.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 16:16, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
As much as i admire your stance of enforcing the law to the letter it just doesn't fly, rules are bent, rules are broken, nobody's perfect.why do you insist on being awkward is more to the point. The image does meet the fair use licensing requirements as i have quoted above from the wikipedia template.it's a non free image being used 'fairly' in accordance with wikipedias own rules...if wikipedia have conflicting laws regarding this then we are both wrong and both right.in your FU #8 criteria itself it mentions identify the subject of an article which is what each of them pics do, for all we know someone could throw in an episode of the simpsons. But for the sake of argument,if i made my own pics, say one for each season,i could use them right since they are copyright to me,am i right?--JMGWiki (talk) 01:15, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
If it was some kind of drawing or something, yeah. But any screenshot would be owned by the owners of the show. And as for identifying the subject of the article: that doesn't fly. Having two pics each repeated 20+ times isn't necessary for that. And we can't just break the rules because you want to: they are what they are, and that's that.--Fyre2387 (talkcontribs) 04:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Relax,we both want the same thing, info,i just prefer to consume it in a pleasant environment as much the same as i would not eat my food from a garbage can,cos they stink...it's a matter of preference.I think I'll either make a pic or leave it for now & add screens from each episode. So can't we all just get along lest the Age Old Prophecy come to pass lol--JMGWiki (talk) 08:18, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non-Quote Episodes edit

"A Low, Gutteral Tongue Flapping Noise" is a quote from the episode. It is the cat sound used twice to describe a woman. I think it should be removed from the "exceptions" list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.247.224.183 (talk) 20:42, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Which episode and what list of exceptions? Please elaborate. --AussieLegend (talk) 06:10, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Season 12 episode count edit

When will we know the 12th season episode count? It's aired 4 episodes already and most other shows have theirs confirmed. 99.242.182.116 (talk) 20:21, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

The total episode count will be available when it's available. It's quite common for episode counts to be unknown for quite some time. --AussieLegend () 09:48, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
