Talk:List of Tibetan monasteries

[Untitled] edit

I've attempted to bring some organization to this list. On the one hand, it is useful to have a list with miminal elaboration. On the other hand, there was a proliferation of entries that have not corresponding article and are hard to verify. The reader would have no way of knowing a huge monastery with thousands from a whole in the wall in Ladakh that was maybe around for a hundred years. So I've tried to add a little context.

Here are entries I deleted because I couldn't recognize & categorize them.

I'll try to reintegrate them into the article as quickly as possible when I can find more info about them, but it seemed like a start was necessary. Sylvain1972 17:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Tashi delek, Jokhang is a temple and not a monastery. --Beaukarpo (talk) 10:16, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Organizing principles for this article edit

The monasteries are currently organized by lineage/sect. I suggest that within these groups they be sorted by Tibetan province (U-Tsang, Amdo, Kham).

The names should be provided in Tibetan script; this will help reduce confusion. It is helpful if the Chinese names of the monasteries and their locations (province/prefecture/county/township/village) are also given, both in Pinyin and in Chinese characters.

Temples should be included but should be noted as such.

References should be provided, and there are plenty to draw from: not just Wikipedia itself but articles on the Web and books, especially travel guides. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.119.15.147 (talk) 04:43, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
