Talk:Characters of the Soulcalibur series

Cleanups and spinoffs edit

Okay, this whole article needs a major overhaul because right now it's a mess. First off, what people want to talk about: spinoff content: Taki and Mitsurugi have enough in both cases if someone's willing to actually work on the articles. If they get restored and never worked on they're just going to die out. If you revive them you have to make it a commitment to improve them and try to get them to GA's so we can hopefully make a good topic out of all these. That sound good?

The subsection below is for bookkeeping so things can be kept track of, basically going by each character's section.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 04:48, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bonus characters? edit

Should there be a list of characters from other franchises and their one off appearances in which titles and what their role in the plot was? Stabby Joe (talk) 19:19, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not really: a paragraph can handle them, and their role in the game can be mentioned in their respective character articles.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 21:24, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Soul Calibur IV edit

Why is there nothing detailing the bonus characters created specifically for Soul Calibur IV? I doubt they are mentioned in any other articles.151.166.15.115 (talk) 03:47, 21 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dampierre edit

i took a look at the credits of Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, and there isn't any english voice actor credited (oddley enough, the rest of the english cast with the exception of Terrence C. Carson). so it's perhaps unknown who voiced him in the english version. Angus Nitro 11:43pm, January 11 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Angus Nitro (talkcontribs)

Raphael being bi? edit

Where does it say that raphael is bisexual? I havent played that much of the saga; but im sure in the game SC 2 and 4 it doesnt say anything about it.. can someone explain? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.192.10.50 (talk) 15:48, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rock = Triple H edit

I haven`t found an official reference but anyone who likes videogames and the WWE can tell that they are alike, in a lot o forums is mentioned by fans, i`ll find a reference eventually but it would be nice for someone to help me look. Zidane tribal (talk) 06:14, 27 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cervantes edit

I've noticed someone cut-out Cervantes' entire Main Article and made it a redirect. I don't think this was a good idea unless someone planned to Change all the character' main articles to redirects. To which has not happened yet. The page had more than enough information on him. and after changing it to a redirect, they only added 8% of what his main articles had about, heck this character list page doesn't even state his voices, or anything significant. I solemnly believe this issue MUST be discussed in some way. (Aeris97 (talk) 23:48, 16 July 2012 (UTC))Reply

images edit

Do you think this article would benefit by adding some images? We can add images of the characters themselves or of cosplays inspired by them. What do you think about this Tira cosplay, do you find it relevant and useful for the article? Cogiati (talk) 20:29, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've nominated several classic characters for a split edit

Especially Mitsurugi & Siegfried. --Niemti (talk) 18:10, 22 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Siegfried's article? edit

I'm not too experienced with the franchise but I have seen many articles that give this character high importance. Is anybody willing to give Siegfried its own article? Since I don't have too much knowledge I only will try to search for more third-party sources. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 21:46, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

New character table edit

How do you like the new character table? I find it so clear and think that every character should be listed in the table. And also the table should show which character can be unlocked when. In addition, I have taken out the category with the weapons, because I find it unnecessary to list them with. This table only refers to the main games. I will create another table with the spin-offs. But first I would like to make a small vote, if everyone agrees. ---TheKerberos01, 23:16, 27 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

I don't think spin-offs are necessary. What Soulcalibur Legends actually needs is rather just a proper article. SNAAAAKE!! (talk) 04:44, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Merge discussions for Hildegard von Krone and Tira (Soulcalibur) edit

Putting both in the same bracket here due to similar issues: most if all the reception is primary, coming from reviews of the game. I've tried extensively to find sources through Internet Archive and they just aren't there. Of the two Hilde has some sources that are usable, but all say the same thing ("this character is fully clothed in this series!") which is a lot less commentary about Hilde and more about the state of Soulcalibur's character design, and primarily rooted in Soulcalibur IV's reception.-- Kung Fu Man (talk) 21:29, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Support for both article to be merge per Beemer69 reason and especially ferret source analysis on Hilde [4]. The same faith goes to Tira. GlatorNator () 22:05, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@User:GlatorNator did you mean Tira? Because I can pretty much assure you with all the article and paper mentions Ivy's notable. Like there is a scary amount of back and forth about her.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 22:10, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oops, I mean Tira*. Just a typo. Heishiro Mitsurugi might be also possibly joining the list. GlatorNator () 22:12, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Support Both merges, based on my own look at Hilde and trust that if Kung Fu Man couldn't find sources for Tira, they don't exist. -- ferret (talk) 22:14, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Support Hilde, definitely. Will take a look at Tira when I get the chance. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 00:51, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose merging Hilde, neutral on Tira: For Hilde, let's take a look at this and this, both of which I've left on the talk page there. Both sources were ignored in the analyses, based on the fact they weren't cited in the article, but per WP:NEXIST, they don't necessarily need to added the article to prove notability, so long as it is known that the sources exist. The source I added to the article the other day has some discussion on her too, even though it is structured in kind of a weird way. Hilde is unique to the series for being fully-clothed, so of course that's going the main talking point of her, consider the series is known for its fanservice. It's still discussion on her, nonetheless. As for Tira, I'm more neutral. On one hand, I see some decent reception, but on the other hand, there doesn't seem to be much significant coverage on her either. But still, the inclusionism and separatism in me doesn't want to quite say a merge on this one. Either way, I'm looking for more on Tira. I'll change my !vote to oppose, if I find anything. That said, thank you for bringing this to the talk page, instead AFD'ing them, Kung Fu Man. The problem with AFDs is that there tends to be bias towards recreation if the AFD ends in a merge, like you've said. When it comes to talk page merges, recreation is less likely to be rebutted, should you find new coverage. MoonJet (talk) 05:45, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hey there, let's make sure we aren't putting words in anyone's mouth, such as saying we ignored something. I've looked at both of these sources, and only the first has any significant coverage. That's just one source for Hilde. I do not consider the second source to be significant, esp since it's actually quoting other people rather than saying anything in it's own words. Dissertations aren't exactly strong sources to begin with. -- ferret (talk) 13:16, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
My main problem with the book is it'd be an island all its own and is more about issues with her gameplay. If we had other sources bolstering that it could work but the only ones I found were on GameRant sadly. Were you able to find any others? As for the paper, it's not actually discussing Hilde itself but citing articles that do, many of which are already cited in there including Roger Clements. I seriously tried to find stuff on both it's just...not really there to warrant the article.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 15:29, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Both merges. Coverage is almost entirely trivial, save for that one instance of SIGCOV for Hilde discovered by MoonJet in the book. It's simply not enough. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 08:46, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Both Trivial coverage and primary sources. Not much else. QuicoleJR (talk) 12:52, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support both merges. Most of this looks to be trivial coverage. If Hilde is borderline, there can be some additional mention at the merge target. Shooterwalker (talk) 23:34, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
