"Everywheere You Go edit

What about the Kelly Rowland track "Everywhere You Go" she has stated in many interviews that it is the official 2010 song. Im sure the artist isn't wrong. It is getting ready to be officially released and has had a video shot which will premier soon! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.0.57.15 (talk) 01:28, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Official vs Commercial edit

A lot of the confusion and the contentions may be coming of what is actually official and what is commercially endorsed FIFA anthems of legal sponsors. Perhaps it would be a good idea to establish the truly official anthem in the primary chart and a secondary endorsed commercial anthems in a second listing on the same page, or creating an extra column where Official FIFA or commercially endorsed FIFA anthems is clarified. Also it is appreciated that those who make edits provide adequate explanations and sources for their deletion or addition and amendment of songs werldwayd (talk) 19:44, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Anthems prior to 1986 edit

With my edits, I have reached back until 1986 World Cup. But were there anthems prior to this, for example in 1982 or 1978 or 1974 etc. IUt would be very useful if you can contribute to this aspect of the page werldwayd (talk) 19:57, 16 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

World Cup 1978 (UK) Theme edit

"Argentine Melody (Cancion de Argentina)" by San Jose featuring Rodriguez Argentina (aka Rod Argent). This was released as a single (MCA 369) in Britaiin in June 1978 reaching #14 on the UK Singles Chart. I still have this 45 rpm vinyl. This is a nice intrumental piece. 1994 World Cup (USA) Theme edit

Daryl Hall's version of Gloryland was the sub-theme, as the main theme happened to be the instrumental version which was broadcast worldwide. Best, --Discographer (talk) 22:26, 24 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

This has now been addressed through the creation of Gloryland (anthem) where prominence is given to teh instrumental version and the Daryl Hall / Sounds of Blackness version with lyrics as only secondary. werldwayd (talk) 21:08, 25 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

World Cup '82 Theme edit

"BBC World Cup Grandstand" by Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This instrumental piece was released as a single (BBC RESL 116) in Britain reaching #61 on the charts in July 1982. Best, --Discographer (talk) 22:36, 24 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

World Cup 1990 edit

France 1998 edit

I have to say, that in the presentation of teams for WorldCup 98, the song presented as Oficial Song for France 98 was:

La cour des grands (Do you mind if I play) - Youssou N' Dour & Axelle red

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB7di2SPwWk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq6LhmHKw3w

It has an English version and a french version. Hope this info been good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.231.99.249 (talk) 00:25, 8 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this is the official anthem of World Cup 98. I will insert this in the main article. Thanks! Best, --Discographer (talk) 08:36, 11 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

"World Cup Willie (Where in this World are We Going)" by Lonnie Donegan edit

It was officially the earliest ever or FIRST major FIFA World Cup theme song when the World Cup was held in England, 1966AD!!! :-) I initially came across that from the FIFA's official website through its search box. Until now there is still NO legitimate article regarding that song into this Wikipedia, but the title suggests that it is a redirect to the FIFA mascots page. Maybe is there anyone who can change and expand it? It is actually a song about the first official mascot at that time id est a lion, of course. See below for more information:

2014 WC edit

The song is in Portuguese and English and not Spanish and English. Portuguese is the official language of Brazil. Jgsodre (talk) 04:54, 12 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Let's Go edit

Where did FIFA announce that Let's Go was for the 2018 World Cup? I'm just checking, because I can't seem to find the proof that Let's Go is an official song. 209.6.14.231 (talk) 15:25, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Split - Official song and anthems and other songs and anthems edit

Firstly, This article only have FIFA World Cup official song and anthems like FIFA World Cup official films and FIFA World Cup official mascots But Many other songs and anthems - company promotional songs, tracks from FIFA albums, World Cup broadcast theme songs added in the table.

If lists all songs and anthems about respective FIFA World Cup. One World Cup have more 100 songs and anthems all over the world. Table in the article became more chaotic. Therefore split and arrangement is needed. Footwiks (talk) 05:36, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I disagree, while i think that 2022 World Cup is having TOO MUCH music, the Sponsors and Media Partners are picked by FIFA Themselves and allowed BY FIFA to make official promotional content in order to promote the World Cup, also there is songs that originally were used as marketing (Wavin' Flag, 2010) or famous during the tournament (Love Generation, 2005/2006) that ended up recognized by FIFA and World Cup organizers as Official World Cup songs.
Therefore, in my opinion, they can be on the list as Official songs, as long if is clarified that they were made to promote a sponsor or to hype up a média broadcast of the tournament, like is mostly done on the list nowadays Meganinja202 (talk) 06:45, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
As you know, Recent World Cup have Too much music. (FIFA official songs, Company Promotional songs, Tracks from FIFA albums, World Cup Broadcast Theme Songs and so on), Maybe 2022 FIFA World Cup have 100 more songs over the World.

Please refer to this articles 1, 2
FIFA website news announced as belows.

Official Songs at recent FIFA World Cups™ have included 'Un’estate italiana' by Edoardo Bennato and Gianna Nannini in 1990, 'Gloryland' by Daryl Hall with Sounds of Blackness in 1994, and 'La Copa de la Vida' by Ricky Martin in 1998. In 2002, the Official Song was “Boom” by Anastacia, while Vangelis’ vocal official anthem featured typical Korean and Japanese sonic elements. In 2006, 'The Time of Our Lives' by the Il Divo quartet was a resounding success. Shakira’s 'Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)' was the Official Song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa and, most recently, 'We Are One (Ole Ola)' was the Official Song of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil.

Definitely there were genuine official songs and anthems by FIFA in each World Cup.

You look misunderstood about definition of official anthems and songs.

For example

  • 2010 FIFA World Cup.
    • Waka Waka" - Official Song from Official album by FIFA and World Cup organizer
    • Wavin' Flag" - Song just approved using in World Cup by FIFA and World Cup organizer, not official song.

I really know and remember that Wavin' Flag was more famous and popular than 2010 FIFA World Cup Official songs and anthems at that time. Maybe some people still misunderstood that Wavin' Flag is the official song of 2010 FIFA World Cup until today.

But Many readers want to find out genuine official songs and anthems of each World Cup. This is a kind of World Cup record and history like FIFA World Cup official films and FIFA World Cup official mascots and FIFA World Cup official match balls.

Besides Wikipedia have to convey accurate and clear information to readers.

Therefore, article need 2 tables - table about official songs and anthems / table about other songs like Italian article Footwiks (talk) 07:35, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

But Some Songs ended up recognized as official song, so much it ended up on the World Cup albums, like with Love Generation that ended up Became the 2006 Mascot Song
Waving Flag was even featured on the 2010 World Cup Official Video Game
Also, general public want to know what related to the tournament songs were known as time of tournament, being the main tournament song or not , Split the songs would only put a burocracy from what people really are seeking on the list Meganinja202 (talk) 20:25, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just a addendum, the extra info about where the songs come from like in the Broadcast songs, exist exactly to convey accurate and clear information to readers Meganinja202 (talk) 20:35, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Please don't be so stubborn. We have reliable source about official songs. I'll say it again.

I have all Official FIFA World albums from 1994 to 2014. One album have average 15 songs. In your logic, Do we have to list all songs in this article? Tracks from World Cup albums and promotional songs and broadcast theme. There are too many songs related to each World Cup. So two table are needed.Footwiks (talk) 02:39, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

First fo all. even on your citation they say IT INCLUDES, meaning that non-cited songs may be included on the list of FIFA acceptable songs.
Second, Yes, i do think that, because its necessary for article and in your list you had not even put the officially announced songs for 2022 beyond the first one announced
Third, it is clear only we two wont get into consensus, so for now, i will undo to my last edit and i will call for a WP:RFC , i ask you that DONT edit the form of the page until RFC is done Meganinja202 (talk) 04:42, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Let's delete Hayya Hayya (Better Together) in table of official song. I don't care. If World Cup really start, We can know clearly. Footwiks (talk) 06:31, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

RfC:About The list for World Cup songs, should be divided or not? edit

A user has came question the way the posts are put, in a way each events has their own songs but in another side, World Cup is known for having various songs, even many official ones, for a same tournament

How the list should be done? it needs to be divided?

Meganinja202 (talk) 05:19, 16 October 2022 (UTC) Meganinja202 (talk) 05:13, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Current one table is very discursive and chaotic. Because Official songs and unofficial songs which have don't have notability and reliable sources are mixed in the one table.

Also Table is very long and has poorly readable typography.

This article really need arrangement.
  • First suggestion
Like FIFA World Cup awards, In order to convey accurate and clear information to readers, demand clear classification about official songs and unofficial songs.

Therefore, We have to have two tables as blow my version.

Please check out My version
== Official songs and anthems by FIFA ==
== Other songs and anthems related to World Cup ==
  • Second suggestion
Except official songs and anthems, Let's delete all unofficial songs which don't have notability and reliable sources like List of UEFA European Championship songs and anthems.

If we list songs just related to World Cup, Too many songs inculding trivial songs. Wikipedia 's article and contents need notablity. Footwiks (talk) 07:54, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Footwikis, this is for other users discuss, please leave for others to talk and dont be forceful Meganinja202 (talk) 08:18, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Support the 2nd suggestion, aside from the words "notability and". The article already has a very clear, stated scope: "FIFA World Cup anthems and songs[1] are tunes and songs adopted officially by FIFA (or by official broadcasters and partners selected by FIFA), to be used prior to the World Cup event and to accompany the championships during the event.[2]" The list should be strictly limited to songs that qualify, and for which there are reliable sources. Whether a song is WP:NOTABLE or not is irrelevant; any song within the actual scope of the article will not be WP:INDISCRIMINATE on this list. The notability guideline only establishes whether a subject can have its own stand-alone article. It has nothing to do with whether something can appear in a list article, especially one that is intended to be a complete list. MOving on: "Tracks from World Cup albums and promotional songs and broadcast theme[s]" should not be included, as noted above, there's an entire album released each since since 1994 if not earlier, each with an average of 15 tracks, and that is too much actually indiscriminate information to include. It is possible that the subject of "Official FIFA World Cup albums" is itself a notable topic and could be split into a separate article with track listings by year. But it is clearly separate from the subject here of FIFA World Cup anthems/songs played during the championship games. Regardless, unofficial tracks with some loose association with FIFA or particular teams/clubs is indiscriminate, unencyclopedic information and should not be included, nor do we need to be keeping a ledger of every track ever used for a football TV promo. This is not FootyObsessiveCompulsivesWiki.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  09:31, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
The thing is, that isnt some random "loose" association with FIFA, are songs that are recognized with FIFA in many different ways, including being used not as ads during Tournament Broadcasts by the official broadcasters selected by FIFA or even on the Official Video games of tournament (eg. In 2006 a song made a year earlier became the mascot song, in 2010, Waving Flag, that ended recognized as one of the tournament related music by FIFA, was selected while the main song of tournament, Waka Waka, was not even selected for the game, in 2022 it will be not just a single song but will be various songs)
ff we can't put them on a single list, at least i think that we should put on two lists based on direct official and another list made of songs that had some sourced fame during the world cup. Meganinja202 (talk) 20:20, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
I know that Waving Flag was soundtrack of 2010 FIFA World Cup Video Games.
By the way, Do soundtracks from FIFA World Cup video games have more important value than official songs of tournament? 2010 FIFA World Cup Vidoe Game was made by EA Sports and These sorts of games are just FIFA licenced products which is specialize in electronic game not music.
Waving Flag was a just Coca-cola (FIFA World Cup Partner) poromtional song at 2010 World Cup. But Waka Waka was official song of tournament. This is record and history.
I also think that  SMcCandlish's opinion is reasonable.
    Footwiks (talk) 01:53, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
You saw the link i had posted? THE CREATOR OF THE SONG said that was accepted by FIFA as an official song, you are disagreeing with the person that made the song and said that FIFA had contacted him? Meganinja202 (talk) 04:15, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Definition of official songs and anthems here is songs and anthems with note of official song and anthem from Official FIFA World Cup album. 2010 FIFA World Cup album don't have Waving Flag and FIFA Website News Aticle about World Cup Official Songs don't have Waving Flag..

Please Check out the official music video of Waving Flag and read the comment.
ATTENTION: This is NOT the official video or song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup! Music video by K'naan performing Wavin' Flag. (C) 2010 OctoScope Music, LLC
K'NAAN - Creator of Wavin' Flag specified cleary at that time. - Wavin' Flag is not the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Don't you agree that K'NAAN's comment in Wavin' Flag official music video?

I'm telling you now for the third time, These are official songs each FIFA World Cup.

Support option 2, broadly per SMcCandlish. Any inclusion should be official and have reliable sources listing it as such. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:27, 31 October 2022 (UTC) (Summoned by bot)Reply

Maybe change BBC and ITV to Sponsors and Broadcasters song asides the Main Tournament soungs? Meganinja202 (talk) 20:24, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
This, being the BBC's and ITV's official broadcasting music (songs, instrumentals), having had nothing to do with sponsorships, or any sort of sponsoring thereof. So yes, your suggestion sounds good, just without the words sponsor / sponsorship being used (avoid any possibility of what one may perceive as fabricated info from such misuse of words as these). Thanks for replying. Best, --Discographer (talk) 22:46, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
The actual list has a area below the name of the song that explains that, if the song is a broadcast song, mascot song or any other type of related song Meganinja202 (talk) 01:23, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
If you want to list most songs related to World Cup, Division of article is necessary. In my opinion, Most songs related to World Cup, We can classify them into three great categories.
  • For example
    • Official songs and anthems by FIFA
    • Theme music from broadcasters (Theme music from BBC, ITV, NHK, Univision, beIN Sports and so on)
    • Other songs and anthems (Promotional songs and other songs which can't classify cleary)

Footwiks (talk) 02:10, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

3 lists are too much, 1 or 2 is enough, don't make information too bureaucratic for users Meganinja202 (talk) 04:27, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Do you think that wikipedia article with many sections is too bureaucratic? I don't think so. In order to convey clear information. 3 Category is needed. Or one category with only official songs and anthems is OK. Footwiks (talk) 05:26, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
However way you include this is okay with me, just as long as they are there. These songs and instrumentals, being all official music, represented at the time upon original release of what was being shown live on English-speaking television (or in some places on tape-delay) that was broadcast throughout the English-language world. This very site is the English-language Wikipedia. This music at the original airtime of those matches being played is what was heard by the non-deaf English-language speaking populace. Therefore, the real question is, why should this site even include anything else other than these official songs and instrumentals as originally heard by the English-speaking populace? Because Wikipedia is not a biased place and the acceptance of such non-English language [official music] here is in keeping with Wikipedia as a non-biased institution. Again, however the make-up of the above table is included here, is okay with me. Best, --Discographer (talk) 10:49, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
exactly, also the idea that Wikipedia is mostly the sum of all human knowledge implies that we should make a list of Notorious World Cup songs without Bias, as long the song is recognized by FIFA or by parties recognized by FIFA as capable to do so (eg. Partners and Broadcasters) Meganinja202 (talk) 01:44, 18 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
To Discographer! I have a question. Finally, Do you want three tables or sections as belows?
  • Official songs and anthems by FIFA
  • Other songs and anthems (Promotional songs and other songs which can't classify cleary)
  • Broadcaster Theme Music (Theme music from BBC, ITV, NHK, Univision, beIN Sports and so on)

I arranged and polished the draft version. Please check out final sample version, In my opinion, In order to list so many songs releted to World Cup systematically. My version with 3 tables is best solution. Let's fix my version and finish discussion. Footwiks (talk) 15:33, 18 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
This works well; though the Official albums section should be flipped with the Entrance music section. Best, --Discographer (talk) 16:01, 18 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
OK I'll move the Official albums section.
Other songs and anthems should be fused with broadcasters since some of those songs like "Waving Flag" and "Mundial 82" were also used on certain broadcasts
Also you are putting some OFFICIAL 2022 songs as Others, be careful that this year has various official songs NOT JUST A SINGLE SONG Meganinja202 (talk) 00:26, 19 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
