Was it "probably carved" or "carved, probably during the Middle Formative Period"?
Can anybody with access to the reference please clarify?

I'd say the latter interpretation is meant ("carved, probably during the Middle Formative Period"). Though I'm not sure why probably is in quotation marks in the text- is it a quote from the cite, or are the quote marks used to indicate some doubt? The quotes were in place because I was quoting an authority, but I can see now that that was not the best construction. The word "probably" does refer to the timeframe, but I believe that the phrase "carved, probably during the Middle Formative Period" is a bit strange since these mounuments are always carved. I suppose I could use "created" instead of "carved". You all are welcome, as always, to change anything and everything. Thanks for your comments, Madman 12:59, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
