Duplicate and redirecting edit

I created this article on Seilhamer on December 3, 2011. For some reason, I didn't see that there was already an article on him called "Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez". The main reason why I didn't see it was because it wasn't linked to the Senate of Puerto Rico article, which was the one where I was parting from. Now, that article was created in 2009 and had virtually the same information I had on this one, with maybe the exception of the basketball statistics. The reason why I chose to redirect that one to this one was that most of the Google searches/results I found on Seilhamer address him by just "Larry Seilhamer" without using the "second" last name. I hope there is no problem with that, but if there is, we can discuss it and revert it. Thief12 (talk) 06:06, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I was dissappointed to see that after my message, the response was to preserve the article that you created instead of merging it into the existing 2-year old article, which seemed more condesceding to the 10-15 editors who had worked on the "Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez" article. I agree with you it was a good faith and honest error, and you may not have had the time at the moment to merge the two. So I went ahead and took the information from this article and merged it with that in the "Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez", per WP:TITLE. (A Google search shows he is known as "Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez" considerably more often than he is known by his first surname only.) The merge option, though more time-consuming, will also allow us to preserve the original article's Talk page, and since there was no discusion in the newer article at the moment of the duplication, no discussions are lost. Like I said, we can always revert it, if it makes you or any other editor more comfortable. In all honesty, I didn't make the decision to favor the article I had created over the other. I went to both articles and carefully revised them both practically line-by-line and, like I said, found basically the same information. The main differences, which were the ones that led me to favor this article were:
  • The article title. Although you're right that a Google search finds more results with "Larry Seilhamer Rodríguez", when I checked several current news articles (here, here, here) and even his own campaign ad (here) they don't use the "Rodríguez".
  • The headings and organization. The other article wasn't as organized as this one, with headings for each section.
  • The basketball statistics. The other article didn't have as much info on his basketball/sports career as this one.
  • Minor grammar/syntax errors. There were some minor grammar/syntax errors in the other article.
All in all, since there was no big difference in the content of the article, I thought there wouldn't be a problem with redirecting one to the other. To be honest, I forgot about the "merge" function, but considering how similar the information was, I didn't think it would be a big deal. Anyway, like I said, we can revert and take the opposite route if you think it's more appropriate. Thief12 (talk) 21:55, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

List of Puerto Ricans edit

To what possible end is there of having a section that says nothing but List of Puerto Ricans on every Puerto Rican's page on Wikipedia? Therequiembellishere (talk) 02:10, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
