Talk:Lafayette, California

Wondering how to edit this U.S. City Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Cities standards might help.

I'm not good at editing, but someone please change the Mayor to Don Tatzin, who took over recently. If you need a citation, you can find an entry at my blog http://lafayetteca.wordpress.com/ or find a different source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.127.182.253 (talk) 01:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is it worthy to add Andrew Shulgin to famous people?

Of course it is. He's famous. Doesn't matter how he got that way.

I cleaned up the intro, the Geography section, and corrected the portion highlighting the climate differences between Lamorinda and Berkeley/Oakland. It appears that this has been an issue in the past in this article, but for anyone thinking about reverting I'll note that the monthly averages for Lafayette and Berkeley support the view that a 20+ degree differential is the exception, not the norm (heat wave periods notwithstanding). Assessment edit

assigned this a start class since it is not far above a stub. to advance it needs more breadth (especially on open space, the reservoir, ecology, infrastructure, prehistory) and it needs sources and images. Anlace 23:35, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rumor has it Joe Montana has taken up residence in Lafayette, so I've added him to the Famous citizens. Can anyone confirm or deny? LinkDupont 04:37, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pursuant to WP:Verify, assertions must be based on more than mere rumor. I'm removing Montana from the list. -- Padjet1 20:16, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Joe Montana does live in Lafayette now. I live in Lafayette and have seen him. You should add him back to the list. Paul Italiano 02:16, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I also have more evidence that Joe Montana lives in Lafayette. I saw him in "Diablo Food's" (local Lafayette grocery store) on March 9, 2008. I talked to him, and he confirmed that he was in fact Joe Montana, but I did not ask if he was living in Lafayette.

I also saw him at a De La Salle High School football game. His son goes to DLSHS. Paul Italiano —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.101.42.253 (talk) 02:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Famous citizens edit

An anonymous IP user added Randy Spratt as a famous citizen. To me it hardly sounds notable, but he is apparently a top officer of a siginficant corporation, and I gave it the benefit of the doubt and left him on the list, however he does not seem to have an article of his own. I am inclined to take him off the list, but does anyone know anything about this person?

How to pronounce Lafayette edit

Is it worth a mention (and someone figuring out how to transcribe) the way locals pronounce Lafayette? It's not like the place in Louisiana (but more La-fee-et'). Or should we keep it a secret so as to more easily spot infiltrators? ;-) - Andwhatsnext 21:57, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

That sounds like something that would not cross the mind of most people from Lafayette, California. As someone who lived in Lafayette, California for most of my life, I can tell you that this is the first that I've ever heard of the different pronunciation from Louisiana. I, and probably most other Lafayette residents would most likely assume that it's pronounced the same way as the California town's name.
That said, go for it and add a pronunciation key =)
--Hno3 08:05, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation: lä-fē-ˈet Paul Italiano 02:16, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

But it really should be "fai" as in "fie on thee!", shouldn't it? I'm from Lafayette and I find that I say "fee" when I don't think about it. Curses! I better start a counter-movement. --GenkiNeko (talk) 09:31, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation should be LA (emphasis here)-fay (rhymes with 'pay') - ette (as in suffragette). If anyone cares to translate that into linguistic terms, go ahead :).--24.5.197.145 (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Earthquake?? edit

Really, a whole subsection of the History section for one minor earthquake??? That hardly seems noteworthy. --Fizbin 00:21, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Demographics (2000) edit

Since we already have newer information (2010) on here, is there any particular reason to keep the 2000 section under "Demographics"? I vote to remove it... Hno3 (talk) 00:46, 12 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
