Khitan edit

Khitan in Arabic means: Male Circumcision,Men Circumcised

This Folk was called The Circumcised (Men). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.128.120.252 (talk) 22:03, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

These are two completely unrelated words. The name of the Khitan people is not related in any way to the Arabic word for male circumcism. BabelStone (talk) 19:41, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

The religion portion needs a complete rewrite, it's pretty much unreadable.

Two notable acts of dumbness edit

"...the Russian Far East from the 4th century" sounds especially dumb, as there was no Russian Far East back then, there was no Russia, and there were no Russians - not even in the Far West. But it suits quite well with an illustration by a lazy cropper from the work of a lazy mapmaker who numbered 28 areas on his map and then only named 27. He didn't care, the cropper didn't care, the guy who inserted it here didn't care, and frankly, readers also don't care because hey, who gives a crap about quality or even common sense on Wikipedia, right? --82.131.25.76 (talk) 11:10, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your comments. I have rewritten the sentence to make it clearer that the Khitans only lived in the area corresponding to the modern Russian Far East. Please note that if you see badly written or incorrect text on Wikipedia you are more than welcome to edit the article yourself in order to improve it. Thanks. Expand lead section edit

It is now transcluded as the introduction for the Portal:Khitan, so both would be unproved by a better lead. See MOS:LEAD

"Kitai = Cathay" in some contexts edit

I changed a bunch of redirects yesterday to the disambiguation page because Kitai means "Cathay" or "China associated" in some contexts.

  • It is still the modern word for Cathay in many languages
  • It was used to refer to Chinese in Central Asia even up to late 1800s.
    • Example: [1] quote 'the Khitay, or "the Budhist Chinese troops"'.

I do agree plural uses are talking about the people. --Voidvector (talk) 21:32, 24 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
