Talk:Kenneth Bae

How'd he get there? edit

The article does not say why he was in North Korea, how he got in, or give details of his arrest. More info, please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.108.171.141 (talk) 09:11, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Age edit

It says he was born in 1968 and moved to the US at age 16 in 1986. If my math is correct, that would make him 18, or else his birth year is wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.30.69.16 (talk) 19:34, 7 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Too much focus on Dennis Rodman edit

C'mon folks, it's not necessary to reprint and comment each of Rodman's short statements about Bae. It's disproportionate. Gronky (talk) 14:42, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

I started trying to trim it down, but I don't really have the time and I know there will be discussion afterward. IMO, more than half the text should be removed. It just needs to say:
  • Rodman said he'd help, sent a tweet, said he'd go and rescue Bae
  • Rodman started criticising Obama for not doing what he considers the President's job
  • Rodman changed his opinion of the Bae situation and said he no longer cares
That's it. Two or three short quotes for each point. Not full quotes, not repetitive quotes of what he said on Monday, then on Wednesday, then on Thursday. Gronky (talk) 14:51, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

pictures of starving North Korean orphans edit

Wiki says - that contained pictures of starving North Korean orphans The reference is much vaguer - The most plausible scenario I can think of is that he took some pictures of the orphans A plausible scenario is not a factTonyf1 (talk) 20:53, 8 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reference overkill edit

The article suffers from reference overkill (see WP:CITEKILL and WP:CITE). One example is the 6 (until I removed 2) references following Kenneth Bae's name. The content in those references are covered by others within the string of refs and they aren't used in multiple places within the article. In general there is no need to have more than 1-2 references per sentence/fact, unless each sentence covers multiple facts which are then backed up by different sources. Controversial matters may require additional references but I doubt his name and age required 6. The same applies with several other places within the article. Hi. I haven't looked at the references, but if the reference numbers are making the text less readable, then multiple references can be put inside a single ref tag pair, and if lengthy blocks of references are making the article text awkward to edit, this can be solved by putting the ref tag contents into the references section and using a named reference in the article text: Help:List-defined_references. In the case of this article, I've no opinion on whether these things should be done instead of removal, I'm just mentioning the options. Gronky (talk) 00:21, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
