Talk:Illinois Naval Militia

I changed the part of the article which identified the Illinois Naval Militia as a state defense force. State defense forces are recognized under Title 32 of US Code; naval militias are recognized under Title 10 of US code. As both are purely state level military units, the terms are used interchangeably pretty often; the Texas Maritime Regiment, for example, is sometimes called Texas' Naval Militia, despite being a maritime unit of the state defense force, and naval militias are often referred to as state defense forces. However, in an encyclopedia setting, it's probably worth splitting hairs. Et0048 (talk) 00:04, 22 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am personally aware of people in Naval Militia uniform working in the mess facility of IL State HQ in Springfield in 1992 and 1993. It is possible they were legacy personnel, but the uniform was specific.Mzmadmike (talk) 04:16, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
