Inspiration? edit

per Culkin's feature interview in Esquire, the film was inspired by a scene in Uncle Buck:

(...) the John Hughes comedy Uncle Buck. In one scene, a woman arrives at the front door and [Culkin] peers through the mail slot. “That scene where I’m looking through the mail slot? Hughes saw that and he got the idea: Kid defends house! And he wrote Home Alone for me,” [Culkin] says.

I'm reluctant to accept Culkin's story as gospel (although it's certainly plausible that Hughes might have told him this), but I feel it should be included in the article in some way. Suggestions? DS (talk) 17:41, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

DragonflySixtyseven, I certainly think this should be added. It could be added in the Production section. Thanks, Thatoneweirdwikier Say hi 18:47, 14 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Marv's last name edit

It currently says his last name is Merchants. Any source for this? I think the last names of Harry and Marv are not mentioned in the first movie. In the script (fourth draft) and novelization, the names are Harry Lyme and Marvin Murchens. In the sequel, apparently their names are given in a newspaper as Harry Lyme and Marvin Murchins. WP:FILMCAST "All names should be referred to as credited". I see it has been fixed already. -- 109.78.198.49 (talk) 11:00, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

– Home Alone franchise probably is the main article. 70.21.185.43 (talk) 01:28, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose The first film is the primary topic and should continue to be the main article. I would recommend locking the page to prevent it being moved or renamed. -- 109.78.198.49 (talk) 10:45, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, generally speaking, when someone says "Home Alone" referencing the franchise, they refer exclusively to the original film. The franchise seems to be relevant during Christmas season, while the original film is relevant the whole year. (CC) Tbhotch 22:00, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I count 75% of views for the film, and the original easily eclipses any of the other films (outside of 2), so unless there's a guideline here similar to the VG one, this shouldn't be moved. Nohomersryan (talk) 00:37, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose primary topic/usage is the first film, not the franchise. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:40, 16 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose this is the main article. The franchise has (franchise) in it to further clear up confusion. The7Guy (talk) 00:03, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Typing in or clicking on "Home Alone" will bring up the first movie. Typing in or clicking "Home Alone 2" will bring up the second, etc. All movies have articles it seems, all with disambiguating names. The first film and the franchise are the only potential for confusion. Yet with exception of the first two movies, this franchise is hardly a "franchise", as the later movies have little to do with the earlier movies, or even each other for that matter. If we need a "franchise" article we definitely need the "franchise" part of the name IMO or confused readers are going to be article chasing. 63.248.183.81 (talk) 10:53, 17 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose as the first film is still the primary topic and I would believe that most people who type this into the search bar would be looking for the article on the first film rather than the article on the franchise as a whole. Aoba47 (talk) 00:47, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Popular in Poland edit

Editors have added some information about the enduring popularity of this film in Poland.[1] This seems like a poor fit for the Critical response section, and in general frequent airing of a classic film on television seems like it would be a better fit for the Release section of the article. -- 109.79.164.114 (talk) 16:48, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm unsure as well the level of detail given to the Poland section, including the exact times the film was shown, e.g. "Christmas Day (December 25), 1995, at 20:10 CET". duncan (talk) 15:43, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
