Merger proposal edit

I propose to merge Karura into Golden Winged Great Peng, and then rename the merged article as Garuda (Buddhism). This is because I think that the content of both articles overlap in that they are both about the adaptation of the mythological creature Garuda in Mahayana Buddhism, only that one is the Chinese version and the other is the Japanese version. I think we just need one article to cover the topic rather than a separate article for each adaptation. The Golden Winged Great Peng article is of a reasonable size that the merging of the Karura article will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. • Strong oppose I respect you for your great knowledge on Chinese Buddhism! But I have some knowledge on Great Peng. This article is the best one I've seen. He appears in different works of ancient Chinese literature, including Journey to the West, General Yue Fei and more. Moreover, he has own number of stories in Chinese mythology. In myth, he is the brother of Mahamayuri and uncle of the Buddha. The Journey to the West is not a random work of fiction; it is one of the most significant works of Chinese literature and it's perfectly reasonable that characters in it have pages of their own. Should we merge Benzaiten into Saraswati just because it is originated from the Hindu goddess Saraswati? I think a case could be made here that the character is prominent enough to merit an article. He is eligible for an article whether or not he has been a character of the Journey to the West, and his notability could not be shown by inclusion in or merged to the Garuda (Buddhism) article. But his most well-known name is Dapeng Jinchi Mingwang, so the name should be changed. Best regards VocalIndia (talk) 13:31, 13 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sorry I'm misunderstanding, I suppprt to merge Karura into Golden Winged Great Peng but oppose to change name as Garuda (Buddhism). Best regard. VocalIndia (talk) 13:34, 13 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oppose the merge Karura into Dapeng Jinchi Mingwang: a merge of a Japanese mythological creature to a Chinese one (even though they might share a common origin) seems culturally inappropriate. The original merge proposal seemed more reasonable, as both the Chinese and Japanese deities are linked to Garuda in the context of Buddhism, but merging to the Chinese title doesn't seem appropriate in the absence of claims for precedence. Closing with no merge, given the uncontested objection and no consensus for any particular action. Klbrain (talk) 10:42, 23 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
