Merge article Ghazni to Ghazni Province

I recomend this merger as there is no need for two articles . To Smoothen the merger I suggest that in the new article

• no content is deleted or excluded from either of these two articles
• no section is removed which currently exists in the two articles
• no sub-section headings are changed when incorporated into a single article.

This way there will be no disruption and continuity will be maintained Cheers

I believe there is a need for two articles -- one is on a province, the other is on a city in the province. Information in either article pertains to either the province or the city. Someone the Person (talk) 16:23, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The statement that Feroze Khan's father Saadat Khan Tanoli was from Ghazni should be taken with a pinch of salt. The very fact that his tribal association 'Tanoli' is thus termed betrays its origin in the Tanawal state in the Hazara division in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan and not Ghazni in Afghanistan.The other fact is that the background of Tanolis is contested among historians and Tanolis alike: Afghan, Turkic/Barlas and even native Indic origins are assigned to these diverse clans named after the hilly terraine of the Tanawal range in north western Mansehra and Haripur districs in Hazara. in the 19th century the more common term was Tanaoli and onlt in late 1800's/early 1900's did the term Tanoli came into popular usage indicating that Saadat Khan or his father came from Hazara. Pakhtunkhwa only became a separate entity from Afghanistan in 1901 and this may have been the reason for Feroze Khan's insistence that his father came from Afghanistan as people of his father's generation still considered themselves as Afghanistanis: a great proportion of Pakhtunkhwa is still designated as semi-autonomous tribal territories (FATA)and free from local political control - during Raj times by political agents. To the north of Tanoli terroteries the existence of Tur Ghar or Kala Dhaka as Pakhtun tribal belt, including many Pashto speaking Tanoli villages could also be an indication of this. Additionally, there are many Tanoli villages across the Indus in Mardan and Swat. The ex-ruling family of Dir in Pakhtunkhwa are of Tanoli origin. Moreover, many Tanolis subscribe to the theory that the tribe came over with Mahmud Ghaznavi of Ghazni when he launched attacks on Hindustan and this seems to be behind claims that they are from that region - this accounts for origin/ancestory being given currency rather than origins.

It could also be the case that like many other Pashtuns in contemporary India Foroze Khan harboured animosity towards Pakistan vis-a-vis partition - this is best exemplified in him being banned from Pakistan by President Parvez Musharraf shortly before his death due to a drunken anti-Pakistan tirade during his visit to Karachi. Shahrukh Khan, also a scion of Tanoli father from Peshawar claims his grandfather came from Afghanistan - same assessment apply to his case too.

During 2nd half of 19th century and early 29th century saw Tanolis from Hazara emigrated to Singapore, Bengal, Siam, Malaya and even Australia. My grandfather, along with his brothers undertook this journey in late 1800's too but came back leaving one sibling in Assam.Countless many stayed - it seems Saadat Khan Tanoli was one of these in Bangalore. Data not supported by citation

@El C: I do not understand why you changed the article from saying:

The population is multi-ethnic, with approximately 50% being Tajik, 25% Pashtun, 20% Hazara, and 5% Hindus.

To saying:

The population is multi-ethnic, with approximately 50% being Hazara, 25% Uzbek & Tajik, and 25% Pashtun. There may also be a small number of Sikhs and Hindus.

The first source says: "ETHNIC COMPOSITION: around 50% Tajik, 25% Pashtun, 20% Hazara, and 5% Hindus".

The URL for the second source leads to the National Geographic Website. It does not lead to the population map - so it is a dead link.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:12, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
