Review

Early life

• Gareth > Bale
• Unlink Wales. Per WP:OVERLINK, countries should generally not be linked unless they have significant relevance to the subject.
• "attended Eglwys Newydd Primary School at Whitchurch", should that be "in Whitchurch"?
• The opening is ordered slightly oddly here, we go from family (parents) to school, back to family (Pike) and back to school again. I would move Pike to just after his parents and then go into his schooling.
• Cardiff Civil Service Football Club > Cardiff Civil Service. No reason for naming of the club to be any different.
• Football hero > footballing hero?
• Link One-touch football.

• "After some mediocre performances", does the ref support this? It says Assou-Ekotto was favoured and Bale was dropped?

• "playing a record 24 league matches for Spurs", is it a league record or a club record? Probably needs clarifying.
• What is ref 37 for? It's a match report for a draw with Everton that isn't mentioned in the text?
• Benoît Assou-Ekotto's > Assou-Ekotto. First name used in previous paragraph.
• "He finally tasted victory", comes across slightly journalistic.
• "the Champions League qualification place", that should either be places or a Champions League qualification place.
• "moving forward to left wing to accommodate Assou-Ekotto at left-back", source?
• Twente goal is unsourced.
• "In recognition", I would probably add "for his performances" or something similar here as it sounds reads like he won the award for his goal against Twente in the previous sentence.
• Link Welsh Footballer of the Year.
• The final paragraph starts in December before going back to November. Try and keep it in chronological order.

2013–14

• "On 9 November, Bale assisted Sami Khedira's goal in a 5–1 win over Real Sociedad. On 23 November, Bale scored his fourth league goal in eight games as Madrid defeated Almería 5–0.", are these two instances notable enough for inclusion?
• "The goal made Bale the first Welshman to score a goal in a European Cup/Champions League final (Ian Rush scored in a penaty shoot-out for Liverpool in the 1984 European Cup final)", source? Also is Rush's penalty worth mentioning if it doesn't count anyway?

• "This was his third trophy as a Real Madrid player.", necessary? This isn't used after any other trophy win.

• Section is quite short, especially compares to his other seasons. Even though he didn't play as much, I'm sure there was plenty of coverage on him.

Wales

• "breaking a record held by Lewin Nyatanga for the last three months", last three months makes it sound almost like the last three from the point of reading. I would change to something like "set three months earlier."
• Include a mention of what role Brian Flynn held at the time for some context.
• Unlink Giggs, linked previously in the article.
• "full Welsh national team", what's the reason for the full here? Unless there is something to explain, it's not necessary.
• "With Wales, he rose to international attention during the 2010–11 UEFA Champions League with Tottenham", I'm not sure what this is trying to say. It begins "with Wales" but then says he rose to attention with Tottenham?

• Refs 5, 6, 9, 26, 65, 79, 92, 94, 95,  97, 121, 131 and 139 need authors.
• Refs 9, 10, 11, 21, 23,  35, 40, 77, 79, 80, 82, 92,  97, 120, 131, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 141, 142, and 143 need accessdates.
• Refs 12, 24, 52, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109 and 128 are from the Daily Mail. Per WP:DAILYMAIL, the paper is not deemed a reliable source so should be avoided where possible.
• Refs 14, 15, 16, 17 and 20 use FC instead of F.C.
• Refs 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 20 from the Southampton site all appear to be dead.
• Refs 18 and 85 need a publisher.

Unfortunately, I'm failing this on the grounds that there is simply too much to reasonably be expected to fix here. The refs especially need a thorough overhaul, something which should be dealt with before nomination. I have only reviewed up to ref 150, halfway, as there are clearly a large amount of issues to be dealt with and the problems raised with the first half are ongoing through the remainder. Please bear in mind, this is not a complete review. Once I noticed the problems with the refs, I have simply skimmed the article from Madrid onwards for obvious points that need addressing so that, should you wish to renominate, the article will be in better shape for another review. These references are certainly the issue here which I believe that failed which I did not notice when I nominated that back a few months ago. Although the Daily Mail references were probably not recognised as unreliable at the time of addition, this was not violating WP:RS which it does since the discussion was finalised. I am disappointed that I didn't look at the reference details before nominating so I will amend these in a separate edit as well as expanding the 2017–18 season before re-nominating to get a better chance here.
