What's with the highly biased pro-expressway language in this article? Whatever your opinion on the Gardiner is, it shouldn't be so evident in the writing style. This needs to be rewritten more objectively.

No exits are signed on the Gardiner Expressway. Exit numbers from 427 to Lakeshore were signed, but all distance markers and exit numbers have long been removed. Exit numbers should not be shown on this page, since they do not exist on the highway. --24.103.242.178 08:28, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I agree. There is no evidence to support that the City will ever issue exit numbers to Gardiner exits, so it is misleading to list them here. I will remove them. Darkcore 09:44, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I've reverted a section on volumes for various modes entering downtown. The City's screenline data show automobile traffic entering downtown hasn't changed significantly since the 1970s, although it shows some minor fluctuations. Scarborough Expressway edit

I did some minor editing of the section on the Scarborough Expressway extension. It was not demolished due to low volumes, but rather the high maintenance costs were deemed to be better spent creating a grade-level avenue. Moreover, the demolition was seen as a test-case for the eventual demolition of the entire Gardiner downtown. I also removed the reference to the DVP being congested due to the fact that the Scarborough Expressway was never built. Yes, the DVP is busier than it otherwise would have been had the SE been built. Given the explosive growth in York Region over the last 20 years, compared to the relatively stagnant growth in Scarborough and Durham Region, most of the congestion on the DVP is due to other factors. I see no reason why not. The TTC subway alone over a million into and around downtown on any given day, and that isn't including buses and streetcars. The Gardiner carries many times less. Most traffic on the Gardiner is actually through traffic, not traffic going to the core, so that alters figures dramatically. Very few people actually commute by car into the downtown core itself. One just has to wonder with David Miller's very clear anti-car tear-down-the-Gardiner idealism if the statistics are facts, or looked at in just such a way as to produce those numbers. The Gardiner carries a lot of through traffic, but that is still traffic passing through downtown that would otherwise be on Lake Shore. The discussion of demolishing/rebuilding/replacing the Gardiner predates Miller by about 20 years into the 80s. While I'm sure WTRC likes the comparison for their purpose, I see no reason to dispute it. The subway is packed into and out of downtown, and has a huge capacity of people per square foot. Also, the Bloor did not exist when the Gardiner was first opened. The GO trains are huge nowadays. While the Gardiner has been at capacity since the 1960s, and not expanded, and the city has grown and employment downtown expanded. And they tore down the eastern section, too. Gardiner west end edit

Please provide a reference. Maps and documents show it as the QEW which just happens to be under Evans and is past the Gardiner junction onto Evans. It goes all the way until the lanes from the 427 merge into it forming the QEW. The fact that Evans just happens to be above it at the time isn't relevant since it doesn't attach to Evans at that point. The Evans junction is a couple hundred meters further east. MTO maintenance may end at Evans, but much like the DVP (where provincial jurisdiction ends just north of Underpass Gate), the actual highway designation ends at the junction centreline. - Floydian τ ¢ 23:38, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

1) it's west of Evans junction not east and 2) it ends at the point it turns into the QEW with the lane merging, not in relation to Evans. If you wish to make any changes, you'll need to provide a reliable source that supports it and is solid enough to counteract the reliable sources stating it's at the QEW. The Gardiner continues past the exit to the 427, all the way under the junction until the 427 lanes merge into it and it all collectively becomes the QEW. It's not illogical because those lanes and slips need a designation and responsibility, they're not an unnamed no mans land.
