Citations

Can we at least get some citations by the people who are comparing versions? The versions aren't even fully explained. I know that I haven't seen all the movies, so I can't do it. Gamera was AOL's linux client, released/leaked around 1999/2000, I believe it was actually a hacked-to-work version of their "internet-device" client. --andrew 04:36, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Height and weight

Gamera height and weight is not here and I have no clue big the naw one is, please gather up the info and add this

This is really interesting - I did a Web search on Gamera's weight, and the same mistake seems to be repeated on many English speaking Web pages. Looks like someone just copied the error to Wikipedia. Here is where I believe the mistake to have been made - Japanese childrens' books with monster stats usually list the weights in single or double western digits followed by the character 'Man' (meaning ten thousand). As a kid, translating monster stats for my friends, I misread this and multiplied by ten or one hundred rather than ten thousand. I can't remember if it was a simple error, or my reluctance to believe that Godzilla was such a fat ass. 216.168.238.7 17:24, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Why did someone revert the weight changes? This is an obvious error. I checked other Web sites, and found one reference to 30,000 tons, but can't search for the original Japanese with my browser. 80-120 tons is an obvious error. The average blue whale is a rather long, thin animal (check pictures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Blue_Whale_001_body_bw.jpg), is 75-80 feet long, and large specimens can reach 100 tons. Gamera would be approximately 4.5 times longer than a large blue whale. So how could he weigh less? And if you would compare a portrait silhouette of a blue whale and gamera, you would see that he is not only 4.5 times longer, but also at least 7 to 12 times wider from side to side, and 3 to 4 times 'thicker' (perhaps more...let's assume 10 times thicker to accomodate the weight of Gamera's huge-assed shell which would be solid, and thus denser than the water and fat that comprise most of body weight). Let's do a quick calculation - 100 tons (weight of blue whale) x 4.5 (Gamera is 4.5 times longer) x 12 (gamera is MUCH wider than a blue whale) x 10 (Gamera is a bit of a fatty, and has a giant, solid shell) = 54,000 TONS!! OK, I can't believe the internet just made me calculate the weight of a giant, imaginary turtle. My girlfriend still hasn't stopped laughing. Folks, this is an absurd argument. Gamera is a fictional creature. He obviously does not obey many laws of physics, so trying to apply them to him selectively is pointless. The only legitimate way to include "statistics" on a fictional creation is to explicitly cite sources for that information (see Wikipedia:Footnotes on how to do this). Anything else is forbidden original research, as uncited claims supposedly from unnamed books are totally worthless to Wikipedia. Please find one or more specific reliable sources to cite for this information, or we'll just have to remove the data. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:49, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Please sign your talk page posts. To answer your question, it appears there was a stub vs. speedy-delete battle over Zedus, which was resolved by someone redirecting the page to Gamera. In the meantime, Gamera the Brave, an article about the film featuring Zedus, was created, at least partly answering the issue raised by the speedy-deletion nominator. Pee-Wee

Millennium Series

This page claims that Gamera the Brave is part of the "Millennium series." While the Godzilla films from 1999 to 2004 are considered part of the Millennium series, this doesn't apply to the Gamera franchise. Gamera the Brave is simply considered the fourth entry in the Gamera Heisei series. This can be seen by its inclusion in the informational book Heisei Gamera Perfection and more recently Kadokawa's Heisei Gamera Blu-ray box set.

Accusations in this article

Well, once again I'm being threatened with being banned for "persistent vandalism" and all that I did was fix a few grammatical errors.

First of all, Gamera the Giant Monster is properly written with no comma after "Gamera", similar to Gamera the Brave.

Second, Gamera, Super Monster is properly written with a comma after "Gamera", not a colon.

Third, I've seen the first film in the Heisei series more than once and the actual on-screen title is Gamera the Guardian of the Universe. The title is written the same way for the Dark Horse comic book miniseries. There's no colon in the title of either of them.

Fourth, I did not write that statement in the Gamera article about the 2015 trailer being merely a short film and not the basis for a reboot. That was there for a long time before now. If you want proof about this, go to Toho Kingdom, then go to their forums and look up "General Gamera Thread", p. 80 on the section "Monster Manor'. That's how I found out about this information. Someone put that in there, but it wasn't me.

I'm getting upset about all these statements being made about me. Please, this has just got to stop. I especially don't like to be accused of something that I am not responsible for.

Grammatically correct or not, we must go by the titles that the films are officially marketed as. For example, various sources for the first Gamera film go by "Gamera, the Giant Monster", with the comma, as shown here. The film's subtitles even use the comma, as shown here. The titles are gone by what verified sources market them as. In this case, Shout Factory themselves have gone with the title using the comma. Whether it's grammatically correct or not it's up for debate. And who has been accusing you? I haven't seen any accusations made against you in the last few days. Garasharp

Garasharp deserves more than a brief mention as an unfinished movie -- given that the vinyl figures of the kaiju are sold by various companies. It is remarkable in itself that a character that never appeared on-screen -- but only in plans for a movie -- has such toy demand. Of course, such an article would only be a stub. Perhaps like Zedus and other lesser Gamera opponents, a paragraph in the main Gamera article would suffice. Chesspride 216.144.161.51 (talk) 01:14, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

I doubt that such an article would pass WP:NF. Gamera vs. Garasharp is already briefly mentioned in the main Gamera article. I don't think that devoting a whole paragraph to it would be warranted. Missing DVDs

Three Gamera DVDs were released by Retromedia sometime in the 1990s. They were:

• Destroy All Planets/Attack of the Monsters,
• Gamera vs. Monster X/Monster from a Prehistoric Planet,
• Return of the Monsters/The Magic Serpent.

Names
