Talk:Flint railway station

Station nameboards edit

I seem to remember the nameboards solely displaying the Welsh language name for the station. I am unsure if this is still the case. I checked Google images and found this photo on Wikimedia Commons dated 2009.

I also found an article on North Wales Live dated 9 February 2016 but this is the most recent image I can find.[1] According to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations), "The official name of the station should normally be used with the appropriate suffix, except where this would be ambiguous. If there is any doubt about what the official name is, the name given on the station platforms should be used." In the case of Flint, the anglicised spelling is used on the National Rail website[2] and in Transport for Wales timetables[3] suggesting it is the stations official name in English. However, I feel the nameboards should be mentioned in this article especially if this situation is unique in Wales.Tk420 (talk) Tk420 (talk) 21:20, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

2014 image
A more recent image (from 2014) of the same building taken from a different angle shows the Welsh-language sign reading "Y Fflint" (as with the above image) towards the left, plus an English-language sign reading "Flint" on a lampost to the right. I don't think that the station has been renamed, just that the two languages are not necessarily paired on the same sign. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:05, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
