I have proposed that this page be merged with List of U.S. federal prisons, because all the prisons listed on that page fall under Federal Bureau of Prisons control. --TommyBoy 05:16, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Needs more content

Would like to see more information about federal prisons... I am the main contributor to TDCJ and would like to see similar content in this article.Species2112 18:02, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Such as funding: in 2012 the federal prison system is budgeted $8.076 billion.

Seal

I am removing the seal from the infobox of the article in light of its legal policies and disclaimers. While the BOP can't copyright its seal, "Department of Justice seals, logos and other official insignia may not be used or reproduced without written permission. Requests for permission to use or reproduce the official insignia of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Prisons, Federal Prison Industries, Parole Commission, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Marshals Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shall be referred to the heads of these components." Weaponry

There are a lot of different options; OC (pepper) spray, rubber bullets, LTL (less than lethal) munitions such as flashbang grenades and bean-bag rounds and CS gas during intense situations like a riot. In the most extreme situation, where they may lose control of a prison, the BOP has the SORT team which may introduce lethal munitions. ^Choco_Mint (Q's?)(^_^) 08:15, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Bureau jurisdiction vs court

Is this true? The citation 404's on the BOP website.

"The Bureau has its own jurisdiction over inmates once remanded to its custody and can choose whether to follow a court's recommendations or credits for time served, and manages their release dates based on its guidelines, not the court's.[4]"

Unfortunately, just tracking down the document took longer than I planned, so I haven't had a chance to read through it to see if the document actually supports the text in the article or not.
