Blofeld primary antagonist of Sean Connery's story arc

If the Sean Connery James Bond is taken as a different person from the other incarnations of Bond within the series, isn't Blofeld just the main antagonist/foil to Sean Connery's Bond? After all, it would be a fitting end for Connery's Bond to get the girl and finally defeat his main enemy in Diamonds. TYPE OF CAT

The article on SPECTRE says Blofeld has a white angora cat. This article states it's a persian cat. Does anyone know the definitive answer? --Ledavee 23:09, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

COUNT OR NOT?

The issue brought up in HMSS, if Blofeld is indeed a Count of Blauchfeld (or whatever name it is), is to my knowledge unanswered. Yes, he did remove his ear lobes, which in it is one of said family's trademark to be born without any, but it seems like there was indeed a real family (inuniverse) and he WAS rather insistent on having the title. Any news either way? ELV

World Domination

"Ernst Stavro Blofeld is a fictional supervillain from the James Bond universe created by Ian Fleming. An evil genius, he is the archenemy of the British Secret Service agent James Bond and head of the global criminal organization SPECTRE with aspirations of world domination. His quest for global supremacy is based around terrorism, revenge and extortion."

From everything I remember in both the Novels and the Movies, Blofeld never aspired for World Domination. His goal was purely money and power, mainly money. Perhaps because he believes that Money rules the world, one could argue in a way that he wants World Domination, but I don't think he is ever stated to actually want that.

• In the movie From Russia With Love, he is simply using the plot to get money from Russia.
• In the movie and Novel Thunderball, he is trying to get money by ransoming the western powers with the two atomic bombs he stole from NATO.
• In the movie You Only Live Twice, he is trying to start a war between the United States and Russia.
• In the novel You Only Live Twice, Blofeld is in hiding while studying death and suicide.
• In the movie and novel On Your Majesty's Secret Service, he is trying to get revenge on England for foiling his plots while also being financed by Russia.
• In the movie Diamonds Are Forever, Blofeld is holding the world ransom.
• Do I even have to mention Never Say Never Again?

Indeed, he doesn't. You Only Live Twice the movie implies heavily that he's being contracted by Red China, who are the ones interested in world domination once East and West have wiped themselves out. Blofeld's just in it for the money.

But it's not solely money, at least not in the books - the book version of YOLT has him leading Japanese youth to suicide not for money or power, just out of a nihilistic impluse that he never really explains. The movies did away with that because it was simpler to just have SPECTRE motivated by cash, as are organized crime groups in real life. 213.181.226.21 (talk) 21:48, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Blofeld's just in it for the money? Yes the main goal of my organisation is to reap as much money as possible. However in doing so it is mine and SPECTRE's goal to dominate the world. Sorry Count, but the use of the term "a new power" probably doesn't refer to SPECTRE. The movie made it quite clear that SPECTRE was being contracted by an Asian government that was hostile to both superpowers (ie, Red China). Reasonable to assume that the "new power" in question would be them. Also observe that none of their previous schemes had anything to do with world domination. Their goal in Thunderball was simple extortion; in From Russia With Love, it was also lucrative (stealing the Soviet Lektor and selling it right back to them); in Dr. No, their only target was the U.S. space program, and it's heavily implied that in that one also, they were being contracted by Red China. In On Her Majesty's Secret Service, we have extortion again, as in Diamonds Are Forever (global auction for nuclear supremacy to America, Russia and China).

Always money, money and more money. World domination? Nah, not their style. SPECTRE prefers to remain in the shadows of the great powers and profit off of them. Telly Savalas as inspiration for Lex Luthor

The article claims (in the "Cultural Impact" section) that Telly Savalas' portrayal of Blofeld was the inspiration for Lex Luthor in the "Superman" animated series. The creators have only stated that the inspiration was Mr. Savalas himself, not any particular role he played. I'm commenting out the claim. I don't see how this could be. Lex Luthor existed in "Superman" comics in the 1930s, when Telly Savalas was a young kid (and presumably still had hair), and long before Fleming began writing the Bond novels.Maccb (talk) 03:16, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Footnote 1 is deeply unsatisfactory

It starts "it is commonly believed", which is a bit of a red flag in itself, and then proceeds to make several other assertions without providing a shred of supporting evidence for any of them. It is also linked from "According to the novel", even though none of the assertions in the footnote is sourced from the novel. However, because it is a footnote, when reading the text of the article it looks as if the "According to the novel" text has been properly cited, which it has not. I have had the opportunity to interview Henry Blofeld for The Bolton News as he is appearing here soon, who said that he was a member of Fleming's London club and that he always believed his father was the inspiration for the name. Blofeld's Neck

Clearly at the end of OHMSS during the luge scene, Blofeld is above Bond, choking him. Suddenly a well placed tree branch catches Blofeld's neck in a fork, breaking it. Bond escapes, again. Inconsistency

In the 'Films' section we have this:

In the film series Blofeld first appears in From Russia with Love, then in Thunderball. In these first two appearances, he is a perceived, but physically unseen character, with only his lower body visible as he strokes his trademark white cat.

But in the same section we have this:

He has a full head of black hair in From Russia With Love and Thunderball

Wrong information regarding Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget =

This article claims that Ernst is inspiration for Dr. Claw which is completely wrong. Dr. No was the inspiration for Dr. Claw. You can even look at the cartoon version of Dr. No on the wikipedia page and he has metal hands just like the other cartoon. Right-Hand Cat

Copyright issues

According to the "EON films" section, it seems that there was some sort of copyright or trademark dispute over the character of Blofeld and the organisation of SPECTRE - which might be why Christoph Waltz' character in the 2015 film won't be called Blofeld? Either way, the sentence is a bit unclear and seems to refer to some mention of the dispute earlier in the article, which I can't find. Maybe it was deleted in a later edit?
