Hi, I was wondering if anyone was planning on monitoring or editing this page in the near future. I am looking to revise this page for one of my classes and would love it if I could hear any feedback on some of the changes I plan on making. I am a junior at Rice University, and I picked this topic because of the volatility of the Israeli-Palestine conflict. I understand that this page and any information I find may be biased either for or against either side, so I was hoping to get a second pair of eyes in evaluating sources and writing impartially.

I was hoping to completely revamp this page and provide a cleaner layout for different functions of the Gaza economy, an extensive history on production in three sections (Pre 1947, 1947-2006, 2006-), economic direction by Hamas government, and the extensiveness foreign aid impacts or stagnates the Gaza economy.

Additionally, while I will be writing about economic functions of the Gaza Strip, I don't have an extensive background in economic systems. I was wondering if there were any economics specialists out there who could offer their insights or analysis on the sources I might be posting, and making sure that I am fitting everything into the big picture correctly.

To clarify, this article is about the city of Gaza, not the Strip. You can start a new article on Economy of the Gaza Strip because that page is currently just a redirect to the "Economy" section of the Gaza Strip article. If you have any information pertaining to the economy of Gaza City, then feel free to make changes to this article. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:40, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Modern era - Gazans working in Israel

The article says: "Many Gazans worked in the Israeli service industry while the border was open, but in the wake of Israel's 2005 disengagement plan, Gazans could no longer do so." This statement is not cited with a reference.

During the 2023 Israel-Hamas war, there have been multiple news articles stating construction of buildings in Israel has stopped because the construction relied on construction workers from Gaza.

An NPR report mentions a Tel Aviv apartment building's construction being halted due to 20 to 25 Gazan workers not being available.

A November 3, 2023 report from Reuters states: "Israel previously issued more than 18,000 permits allowing Gazans to cross into Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank to take jobs in sectors like agriculture or construction that typically carried salaries up to 10 times what a worker could earn in the blockaded Gaza Strip."

Economy of Gaza City → Economy of the Gaza Strip – Suggesting a rename over a redirect. IMPORTANT: there is nothing wrong with having an article on the Economy of Gaza City!!! Only problem is that it isn't what the article covers. The article discusses the economy of the Gaza Strip at large. Maybe this was an error upfront, maybe the scope changed after creation. It doesn't really matter. What matters is that the title of any article should reflect its contents. The current situation is utterly confusing! gidonb (talk) 01:35, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Well said! Gaza City is contained in the Gaza Strip and not the other way around. In terms of economy, the cities in the Gaza Strip are not that different from each other. All cope with high unemployment, dependency on foreign aid and foreign utilities, impacts of war, among others. Benvenisti and Roy

@Wafflefrites, would you be opposed to referring to Benvenisti in this article as "Former deputy mayor of Jerusalem"? I'm fine to include that year of the publication as you have added it as well, but I think mentioning his role is relevant here.

As for Sara Roy, she published in IPS, but I don't know that she is affiliated with IPS in any other way. She is a Harvard researcher.

Lastly a question for you, is it typical to refer to quotes an writing in the past tense? I'm used to referring to writing in the present tense, but maybe you can link me to a wikipedia best practices page? DMH223344 (talk) 02:18, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
