Player squad

I found this English DBU link, which only lists the latest national team, unlike the Danish link which were used before that lists 30 or so players. I have gone ahead and included the new link, but if you disagree, please say so here.

In using the English link, the list is kept fresher, and avoids having retired players like Kenneth Perez and Peter Møller (last year) appearing. On the other hand, players who would most likely feature if they were not injured, like Jesper Grønkjær and Per Nielsen, will be lost, making the list of national team players less complete, imo. Originally, Grønkjær and Nielsen was on that site, but both scratched because of injuries, so they could get on this list, because they were selected for the squad. I can't see, why anybody should compain against Grønkjær and Nielsen on this list. kalaha 09:52, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

They can't be included, because we use note #14 as source. If what we write (adding Grønkjær and Nielsen) is not included in the source, then that is a problem of reliability of the article. But perhaps adding additional notes for each scratched player will do the trick - DBU usually have news items on player replacements. Poulsen 06:19, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

With continiuous updates of the Denmark national football team season 2006 article, I think it would be better to completely remove the current squad section from this here article. There's no need in having the same info twice, and in removing the squad list from this article, it would be a more stable page without a constant change of players. I think that the recent call-up squad should only include players that were called up after Euro 2008. The other players have only been playing friendlies, and I think we really only should be displaying the players that have been used in the World Cup qualifying campaign. I noticed that kalaha changed my edit, but maybe we should reconsider this. Well, when you are called up for a friendly match, you are still have a recently call-up. Friendly matches are just as official as qualification matches, and all the other articles include these call-ups. kalaha 08:04, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

I moved the list to 2009–10 in Danish football, and placed a "see also" link under the "players" header. The 2009-10 article is also linked to at the very top of the article page. The reason I moved the players was to keep the article on the subject of the national team in its entirety from 1906/08 to now and avoid "recentism", making the article more stable by bypassing the requirement for running updates. And by adding the newly announced squads to the articles of specific years, it won't be necessary to delete them every time a new one is announced. After a long time with careful consideration, I now removed the infobox with the "2009-10 in Danish football" link from the top of the article page. The main reason behind the removal, is that I found the linked "current article" to be a list of last seasons results and selected players, rather than a text written "current article". As such, it is only appropriate to note the link for the list, at the two subchapters "Results" and "Players".

I understand and agree with the goal to have a stable article. But in my opinion it should only be stable in regards of the past. The scope of the article fully justifies, that we continue to also include all "current information" about the team. When readers visit the article, they will be interested to read a complete article, with both historic and recent information. Therefore its appropriate to include "recent results", "current squad" and "recent squad" in the article, just like all the other related "national football team" articles have chosen to do. All this being said, I support that we continue to have the "last season" article, linked at the two subchapters. Some readers would be interested to also check the seasonal squads and seasonal results (going further back than the current information provided by the main article), and this justify a link in the subchapters to "last season in Danish football". New template to show Current Squad and Recent Callups

A few days ago, I created and implemented a new version 3 of the template, being used to show Current Squad and Recent Callups. The new version include an extra dedicated coloumn to show the players exact field position, while at the same time keeping the coloumn to show the more general "Type" of position (to comply with this standard, reported both by other Wiki articles and by DBU). Finally, the previous coloumn showing "Date of Birth (age)" received a format change, with the new version only showing the calculated current Age, due to a need of keeping the shown player info as short as possible (and realising that a calculated "Age" was more important to show, rather than "Date of Birth").

The rationale behind the change, is that we in Denmark are lucky to have a verifiable source to display the exact field position of the selected football players. Each time DBU report the selection for the upcoming match, they are not only showing a box with the names, but also publish an article with a short description of the role each player is supposed to play. This make it possible for our Wiki template to also show this info (while fully complying with the strict criteria of "no original research"). If this info was not published by DBU, I would not have opted to add the coloumn, as it -in my opinion- would be inappropriate to report the field position the player posses at his club team. When the info about the players field position at the national team is available, this however is both a relevant and important information to add.

Last important info I would like to add about the players "field position", is about how this is being reported by DBU. The tactical 4-3-3 (or more correctly 4-2-3-1) regime practised by Morten Olsen, mean that his start formation normaly consist of the following player types: 1GK, 2 Centrebacks, 1 leftback, 1 rightback, 1 defensive midfielder, 1 central midfielder, 1 offensive midfielder, 1 left wing, 1 right wing, and 1 striker. These positions/roles very seldom change for a player selected for the national team, eventhough we have a few examples of some players getting assigned for various positions during his career (depending on the particular match). Most recent examples: William Kvist is now defined by Morten Olsen as a defensive midfielder (but with the capeability to also play the rightback position if needed), Lars Jacobsen is now defined by Morten Olsen as Denmarks preffered rightback (but also being able to play the leftback position if needed), Martin Jørgensen was defined by Morten Olsen to play a position in the 2010 World Cup as a central midfielder (eventhough he started his career at the team in 1998, by playing the position as an attacking winger).

To say it short, the position of the player might change from match to match, but whenever we have a "position change" for a player, this will also be published by DBU in their article ahead of the match. So we are able to always look up the exact position each player was selected for, reported by DBU ahead of each and every match. The standard in the new version of the template, is therefor to show the "field position the player was selected for ahead of the most recent match". If the player was selected as a "central midfielder" ahead of the match -but actualy played the majority of the match as "offensive"/"defensive" midfielder, the template should still show his position for the match as "central midfielder" -as the coach initially had selected the player to work in that position. This is first of all to comply with the Wikipedia rule of adding "no original research", but perhaps the info is also more valuable to the reader, when being reported this way. Due to the fact, that most of us normally are more interested to learn "how the coach intended to use the player ahead of the match", rather than "how he perhpas was forced during the match, to change the roles/positions due to injuries or tactical changes, depending on the development of the game".

Kit

The kit should be normal red (FF0000), and with the shirt-images there specially has been maked for this article. The one there is now, is not bright enough, and the "things" in the sides is missing. kalaha 15:02, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

What I am trying to say, is that this kits should show the colours of the actual jersey/shorts/socks, rather than being a replica of the actual jersey. All-red kit?

In the current national team match versus the Czechs, Denmark are wearing an all-red kit, which I (now that I think about it) have seen a lot in national team matches - so isn't the 1st kit (home kit) all-red, and the 2nd all-white. /AB-me (chit-chat) 20:26, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Failed GA

A well-done article, but I'm failing it outright instead of just putting it on hold because the history section, which dominates the article, is lacking in citations. It doesn't need a few; it needs quite a few and I think it would be better to work on it before this gets nominated again.

I would also consider spinning it off into a daughter article like some of the other sections, and shortening what's there now appropriately. That alone might take care of some of the citation problems. Right now you get the feeling it wants to be longer, and History of Denmark national football team would give it some room.

I also wonder, where are the pictures? What does this team look like on the field? Its fans (the roligans)? I know that getting free-use sports-related pictures is not easy, especially concerning historical subjects, but there could be at least a few.

The intro is also a bit thin, and could do with summarizing some of the material in the history section. Daniel Case 01:42, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

As of being the greatest moment of this national team, i think it' would be fantastic with a picture, from either the match, the trophy, the celebration, or something alike. If you read carefully, the 107.000 are not "for a match", but refer to the qualification for the 2002 World Cup. And if you read the references, you will see the source is Jan Heintze, captain of the Danish squad at said tournament. Poulsen (talk) 17:05, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

German flag shown as Swastika

The German flag on this page is shown as a Swastika. Is this the way it is supposed to be, or has the page been defaced?

Amateur status of national football team

Biggest Loss

This page says that their biggest loss was 8-1 to Nazi Germany. This, as far as I can tell, is wrong. It should say that their biggest loss was 11-1 to the Basque Country, on the same date. I tried to do it myself, but I don't know how to get around the football-team-template-link-thing.

Renaming to Denmark men's national football team

Home kit

Minor competitions

Hello all, I am planning on adding a Minor Competitions section to the competitive record. This is mainly as it has been decided that my recent addition of the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions to all former participants does not warrant a full section and table unless a nation has competed in more than one edition (see this discussion). Before I do this, I was wondering if anybody would be able to provide me with any minor tournaments that Denmark has participated in, e.g. one-off or one match tournaments (or even unofficial ones).
