Notability edit
It is by far the largest and most comprehensive collection of information about American elections, so it is notable. --Batmacumba (talk) 22:47, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- The notability referred to here is Wikipedia's definition of Notable. Specifically, Wikipedia:Notability (web), which states: In the dictionary, notable means "worthy of being noted" or "attracting notice." Wikipedia bases its decision about whether web content is notable enough to justify a separate article on the verifiable evidence that the web content has attracted the notice of reliable sources unrelated to the web content, its authors, or its owners. Thats an unhelpful standard answer - and you removed the links to the university libraries in CUSD and Princeton. - We could definitely use some addition to the answer, I agree with Batmacumba. Why were the links to the university libraries in CUSD and Princeton deleted? I think it's fine that Stesmo is clearly wanting to go by the books, sourcing the notability when it comes to the Dave Leip's atlas, and it probably really does need its own article page. Being that it was the largest and most comprehensive collection of information based on the American elections, it only needs now a well written construction that tells why its there and what it's hoping to accomplish. Stesmo's answer wasn't really helpful, but I back up the proposal by Batmacumba. Chewbakadog (talk) 23:40, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
- I deleted the external links to CUSD & Princeton because I felt they didn't meet WP:EL. The links did not provide any value/info that wasn't already in the article. Even as sources/citations, they only show that the site exists and another website has linked to it. Possibly useful for verification, but not for External Links.
- I've changed the UnReferenced template to NoFootnotes, as you've added some references since I placed it. Stesmo (talk) 01:07, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
The letter killeth edit
The letter killeth, but the spirit givith life. I certainly don't mean to question anyone's motives or intentions, but even if "THE RULES" say that this page should be deleted, I think it is a mistake to follow rules too literally, and, as Wikipedia itself states, such strictness can be considered passive aggressive behavior: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malicious_compliance
To put it another way the question of whether the atlas is a positive force for good or truth in the world overshadows any arbitrary rules, or should in my opinion. What real harm is caused by having this page? That is what the debate should focus on.
