Fair use images

Just a quick note: there are two fair use images in this article that require separate fair use rationales for this article (see their respective pages). Something along the lines that the image illustrates an artistic trend of which the author is a significant representative. No time now to write more, I'll be back later. An excellent article, congratulations once again... Easily B-class, and an obvious GA candidate.

Possible areas of improvement:

• A couple more images. I believe there's more PD stuff for the early 20th century, and fair use would be OK for the rest. Modern sculpture needs more illustrations in particular. Naive paintings too - at least one should be provided. (I might do something myself in the image department.)
• Speaking of naive art, artists outside the Hlebine School still deserve a mention - off the top of my head there's Slavko Stolnik.
• Quite a few redlinks. Nothing wrong with this, but could be a slight problem if the article goes to GAN. We'll see, unlinking is also an option.
• Some sources might prove problematic, i.e. the Scribd source lacks author and publisher information. Could still be worked around by using alternative sources.

Made a few rather minor corrections. While unfortunately at the moment I don't have time for a more thorough review, I can say that in terms of coverage and cohesion, everything looks fine.

I hope there will be more comments... (I might add a few more myself within a week or so.) I really think this article should go for GA, one could say it is almost there. GregorB (talk) 12:05, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I appreciate the helpful comments! That's an exciting challenge to take it to GA... all those items for improvement look possible with a bit of digging. I have to say it's easier to recognize the significant artists the further back in time you go. There's simply more information, museum listings, retrospective exhibits, etc. The more recent ones, especially in the new media, are tougher to assess, and I haven't actually seen their art. I also have reservations about the lack of credentials on the Scribd source, though its information matches other sources when available - sometimes word for word, so I have some confidence in the content. The Scribd source appears to me like a transcript of notes that someone took at a university class - very useful but not fully reliable... One can only hope that these are based on actual literature, so they can be phased out by it. GregorB (talk) 00:08, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

In that case the Scribd source is gone, and there's nothing in the article that can't be supported by the other references. Finding new images is proving tricky, as photographers tend to list themselves as the author of the image, even when the subject is a work of art by someone else with a much different date. Yeah, unfortunately most people don't realize that, according to Croatian copyright law, they can't own the copyright on a photograph of a 2D artwork that they took themselves, because these are considered reproductions, and not original works. Mihajlo Timčišin, also Tymczyszyn (* 1889 in Srebrenica; † 18. September 1925 in Zagreb) was a Croatian Painter.

Life

Mihajlo Timčišin studied at the Vienna Art Academy in Vienna (1908–1910) and at the academy in Cracow (1910–1912). Starting from 1919 he wa drawing instructor at the Gymnasium in Banja Luka and the one in Tuzla. His preferred techniques were the water color the pastel drawing and the crete drawing. His best works are sensitive landscapes and portraits of old men. He had exhibitions in Zagreb in 1920 and 1923.
