@Laxide13: There is a reason why an article about this guy isn't on Wikipedia yet, and why the page has been salted. I'd recommend you leave an experienced editor to do this if he is truly notable like you say, or come back and draft this in your sandbox and submit it through WP:AfC after you've accrued a thousand or two mainspace edits. — kikichugirl speak up! 01:44, 25 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • "Notability is not temporary", someone's 15 minutes of fame does not make them noteworthy. "Significant Coverage" is vague here, as there is much unknown. I do not see this to be a stand alone article, a section in another article maybe.--NotWillyWonka (talk) 19:51, 25 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Dear NotWillyWonka, in fact, notability is not temporary but you have to look to this article with other point of view: wikipedia has a reason to exist: inform correctly the people about things and relevant persons for the society. And the truth is that Connor Franta is really relevant for the society: Connor is one of the best known youtubers or youtube stars in the whole world what it means that Franta is notable for being one of the best workers on this kind of job: entertain people using an online platform. As you may (and should) know all the notable and famous people (who are relevant for the society) must have a wikipedia page. Moreover, if other similar famous people who are known for being famous on internet and mainly on YouTube like Tyler Oakley or Caspar Lee have a wikipedia page I as an editor of wikipedia for long years don't understand why Connor Franta hasn't a wikipedia page yet.Tiaguinho-map (talk) 23:30, 7 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Removal of sources edit

I have removed many of the sources that were on this page because they were either primary sources, unreliable, or original research. Since I know this may be contentious with some, I'm going to provide a brief justification for the removal of each one. If anyone would like to add them back, I ask that you provide a reason for it here.

  • [1] – famousbirthdays – users may suggest content to be added. Website seems to be easily manipulated/used to include people that do not necessarily meet Wikipedia's standards for inclusion. Plus, a birthday doesn't necessarily need a citation anyway, as if they are worthy of an article, it probably falls under the domain of Common knowledge. Though it might not hurt to have a citation for this on this article, this source is not reliable enough.
  • [2] – drawmylife YouTube video – primary source that is used repeatedly throughout the article. If there is not anyone talking about these facts other than the subject of the article himself, they should not be included.
  • .[3] collegeswimming – passing reference to him that does not discuss in any manner the fact that it is stating (where he grew up), other than that a loose connection can be made between him and the college he supposedly swam at. There isn't even necessarily any evidence that this is the same person as the subject of the article, though I'd say in good faith that it probably is. Reference does not discuss fact; original research.
  • [4] – Meet My Siblings! YouTube video – Again, primary source. His own YouTube videos are not appropriate sources and their inclusion, though relevant, are also promotional.
  • [5] – A HARRY POTTER BIRTHDAY!!! YouTube video – See above.
  • [6] – Connor Franta Presents Crown, Vol. 1 – iTunes link to album that doesn't even mention the fact mentioned (that "The album made it into the Billboard Hot 200"). It does support the statement before that says "On November 11, 2014, Franta released a compilation album, Crown, Vol. 1, of his choice of "up-and-coming musicians".", but the existence of an iTunes page does not indicate notability, especially considering this album appears to be nothing more than a playlist that he created and is now selling.
  • [7] – prizeo – Page appears to be a KickStarter style, self-created primary source by the subject of this article.

There are a number of sources listed in this page's AfD. If anyone would like to use them for this article they are welcome to, provided that the editor has reviewed them properly and has verified that they meet Wikipedia's standards.  DiscantX 00:58, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

It's also worth noting that I did not remove the content that these sources belonged to. Someone is welcome to go in and add reliable sources for these statements, though if none can be found and this article makes it through AfD I will probably remove them.  DiscantX 01:30, 2 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I agree that most of these sources are unacceptable, except for his videos. While secondary sources are preferable, primary sources can be used (with some care). The manner in which his "Draw My Life" and "Meet My Siblings!" videos were used as sources complies with Wikipedia policy. (The way "Harry Potter Birthday" is used though is original research) Please have a read of WP:PRIMARY. - Kollision (talk) 04:05, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Agreed with removal of most of those. The fact about iTunes top 12 and billboard top 200 is now dealt with in another reference anyway. Primary sources as Kollision stated, can be used for A primary source may only be used on Wikipedia to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge.. JTdaleTalk~ 11:38, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Kollision & JTdale, I suppose the major issue I have with their inclusion is that though they do support what is being said and there is honestly no reason to believe any of it is false, they are mostly promotional. It isn't that he's a YouTuber that I have a problem with (I personally believe that the new wave of internet/social media personalities should be given just as much credence as their traditional counterparts, given the right reasons for doing so), it's that anyone can go on YouTube and make statements about their life. It doesn't mean they are fit for an article here, no matter how many people have viewed them. That said, at the time I removed the references there were few secondary sources in the article that could balance out the primary sources. People have added more reliable sources now, so it's not as big of an issue.  DiscantX 21:02, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the videos, although they are self-published sources, they are used used as sources of information about themselves and support statements that are uncontroversial or unduly self-serving which is OK by Wikipedia policy. The way I see it, who knows Connor Franta better than Connor Franta himself. ...And we use information from interviews with people all the time, this is just like that, information from the horse's mouth. - Kollision (talk) 05:28, 4 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Kollision, True that he probably knows himself better than others, but my point is that knowing oneself does not necessarily meet standards for an article here. I would definitely say there are many cases where there is no harm in that, as a person who is involved in his own subject will probably be authoritative in that area, but what I'm saying is that while the statements are most likely factual, they don't particularly indicate any exceptional reason for their inclusion.
Relevant side note – It's not directly related to his YouTube videos, but why, for example, is the fact that "During childhood he became overweight which resulted in his mom signing him up for a swimming club while on high school. First he did not like it because of so much effort needed to be put into it, but later he made strong friendships, got in shape and became the YMCA state champion in the mile. He has also been a part of a cross country team. Later he studied at Saint John's University." in any way worthy of inclusion in this article? It sounds like a summary of anyone's early life and is entirely biographical. This is entirely primary material that doesn't really meet the standards of inclusion in any encyclopedic article anywhere, except for in cases where there has been significant coverage that such a fact had a significant bearing on his historical value to society. This may be me going against the general consensus of Wikipedia-policy here, but I really don't feel that such personal trivia is worthy of a place here.  DiscantX 11:40, 4 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Nothing about exception reason for their inclusion. It's basic information which all articles should have if possible. It doesn't matter when or where anyone was born, really. Does it matter where Obama or the Queen were born or on what day? No, but it is basic information all biographical articles include for completeness. JTdaleTalk~ 14:56, 8 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't really speaking about place or date of birth. Those are standard in any encyclopedia (and not that it's relevant here, but yes it does matter where Obama or the Queen were born as they are heads of state and their nationality is significant. You can ask Donald Trump about that...). What I was referring to was the personal trivia that seems to be cropping up in this page. Most of it sounds like a yearbook entry rather than a proper article.  DiscantX 17:06, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Category for discussion edit

I believe, for many LGBT YouTubers, especially those who have found fame or increase fame through a coming out video, being an LGBT YouTuber is a defining characteristic, just like the Gay politicians or Gay writers category. However, a user has nominated the category LGBT YouTubers for deletion. [see the discussion here] AusLondonder (talk) 09:24, 24 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request that the pronunciation given for Connor be changed from "/ˈkriːmi/" to /'kɒnə/ as /'kri:mi/ is the pronunciation of "creamy" not Connor and the pronunciation of Franta changed from "/frətˈɑːtə/" to /fræntə/ as /frətˈɑːtə/ is the pronunciation of "frittata" not Franta (seem to have been brought in with the last revision) Alexfry01 (talk) 21:40, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Done. Have simply removed it. Doesn't seem like a particularly hard to pronounce or rare name. Connor certainly is not. Cannolis (talk) 23:28, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

I request that the number of views be changed. The article states 281.5 million views as of 30 October 2015, viewing this 2 January 2016 the has greatly risen to exactly 302,892,999 views at the time I'm viewing it. As I believe this is a significant change, I recommend updating the number of views.
