Pronunciation

It would be helpful to have a pronunciation given. My physics prof in college pronounced it with a silent "r," but the typical rule in French would be to pronounce final "r"s except on infinitives of verbs. The reason of your confusion is simple: the rule you stated about final r's is false. Indeed, in most French words ending with -er, even if you exclude infinitives, the final r is silent, (although monosyllabic words ending in -er have their r pronounced.)
