CH Gayle XI edit

I've removed this, again. Content is unsourced, and from what I can see on Cricketarchive, the games under his name were warm-ups for another tournament and were not top-level T20s.[1] The team played against 3 other teams, each named after their captain, there is no evidence that these captains had anything to do with forming the team. Please find (and add to the article) some references that show why these games are notable before re-adding content. Even so, I can see no reason to list out all the players who played for the team. Spike 'em (talk) 09:22, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have again reverted (poorly formatted) content. Please explain here why the whole squad for some minor games which happen to feature Gayle's name needs to be on this article, supported by reliable sources. Spike 'em (talk) 11:27, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

References

The name of this team is associated with Chris Gayle and so it is necessary to add information about it. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 11:52, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Find some sources which show why these games are notable and add some prose about it then. The list of players is completely unnecessary. Spike 'em (talk) 11:58, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

It is not unnecessary and if you want the source you Chris Gayle page in cricketarchieve.com and their you see All Teams. Cite the website here (on Wikipedia) to create a reference. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 02:34, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

The other thing is that anything associated with Chris Gayle's name should be included in this article. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 02:37, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Explain this thing to Velella also. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 06:58, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you add information, it is your responsibly to add references to support it, not someone else's. We do not need to add every piece of information about Chris Gayle, this is an encyclopedia article, not a full-length biography. I am willing to be persuaded that a mention of the team is needed, if you can provide some sources that show that this is notable. I don't, however, believe that a listing of the team is necessary, which is all that you keep adding. I also don't believe that Gayle formed the team himself. I suggest you read WP:V and WP:IINFO. Spike 'em (talk) 07:22, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Mad fellow, just shut up. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 14:27, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Dr Samkiv Kumar: I agree with Spike. This team would not qualify for a stand alone article as the matches are not official t20s, and as they were simply warmup matches and considering the depth of Gayle's career and achievements, I wouldn't say it even warrants a mention in the article. We only tend to mention personal XIs in the context of first-class/List A/t20 status. Oh and keep it civil please, unless Spike is a politician, I'd imagine he's got full control of his mental faculties. StickyWicket (talk) 19:45, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of references edit

References makes this article a too long! What is the need of references? Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 03:02, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

As mentioned above, read WP:V. Any article needs to have its facts supported by references.Spike 'em (talk) 07:26, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Dr Samkiv Kumar: if you are indeed a doctor, I can't understand why you're asking why an encyclopedia requires references. StickyWicket (talk) 19:48, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Domestic records edit

As per this discussion, in the Domestic records...First to play in 10 leagues section, the source provided says 10 T20 leagues (and lists them), so that is what we can quote here. @Dr Samkiv Kumar:, you will need to find an additional source if you want to add in non-T20 leagues, and show that Dwayne Bravo or Kieron Pollard or someone else didn't get to some other total number of leagues first. As it is, I'm not sure how they can include the Canadian league, given it took place in a non-first-class country. Spike 'em (talk) 08:45, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spike 'em: The source of additional teams which I have added to the records is from the domestic team information from Chris Gayle infobox. I have opened the links of the teams listed there and added the name of the league's in which the teams are. I don't know whether the team are domestic or T20. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 08:54, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The article you quote, and the record listed, states 10 T20 leagues. You are adding non-T20 leagues or leagues in which he hasn't actually played a game (as well as missing out one that was listed in the article). Spike 'em (talk) 08:59, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spike 'em: Note the below link and their see Teams Played. The link is:- https://sports.ndtv.com/cricket/players/199-chris-gayle-playerprofile Many of the edits in teams and leagues are according to this link only.Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 16:57, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

And how about you check this link, which lists all the players for Uva Next ? Spike 'em (talk) 17:36, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Or this article which makes it clear that he never played Spike 'em (talk) 17:38, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spike 'em: You are right. I have also checked one website according to which he was withdrawn from Uva Next but he has played for teams such as Vancouver Knights (Global T20 Canada) and Cape Town Knight Riders. Revert the team and league names in this article. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 04:14, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Cape Town Knight Riders never played a single game, so unless you can provide a scorecard showing otherwise they stay off. Spike 'em (talk) 07:37, 15 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spike 'em: The tournament was postponed for a year. But after one year, Chris Gayle will play for this team. That time this team's name should be added to domestic records and infobox. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 08:02, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

No it wasn't. The global t20 was binned and replaced with the Mzansi league, where Gayle is playing for a different team (the one mentioned in your source for the 10 league point). Spike 'em (talk) 08:34, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you accept he didn't play for Uva Next, why do you keep reverting to a version which includes them? As mentioned before, your source says 10 leagues, so you making it up to 13 is original research, which is not allowed. Spike 'em (talk) 08:52, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Dr Samkiv Kumar: p.s. you don't need to {{ping}} me, I have this page on my watchlist so will see when you reply. Let me know if you would like to be pinged when I reply. Spike 'em (talk) 09:49, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spike 'em: Chris Gayle also played for teams such as CL Hooper's XI and West Indies University Invincibles. Would you like to create a different category for such teams in the infobox template.Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 11:17, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't want to be pinged. I too have this page in mu watchlist. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 11:17, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
Do you have links to these? They sound like they are one-off games for scratch teams rather than being major teams taking part in a structured domestic tournament. Spike 'em (talk) 11:27, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

I have seen these teams' name on cricketarchieve.com, there are many teams like that. They are List-A teams. Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 12:30, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Carl Hooper / Brian Lara / Chris Gayle XIs are all scratch teams for warm-ups / selection and are not List-A teams. On the Records section, I've asked you 3 times now to stop posting unsourced WP:OR. I'm trying to be civil, but if you keep ignoring this, then I will report this as edit warring. Spike 'em (talk) 12:44, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
For my part, I think the article quoted is nonsense anyway. As well as those listed, he has played in Stanford 20/20 and Caribbean Twenty20 in the West Indies, and Stanbic Bank 20 Series in Zimbabwe (not the Logan Cup). Given the sources lists the 2 South African tournaments separately, I'm not sure if the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash can be considered as different to the Big Bash League given one was for state teams and one was for franchises. However I have no proof other than the article quoted that Gayle has reached any given number of leagues played in before any other player. Gayle is 4th on the list of most T20s played and there are many players on there who have played for 15+ teams so unless someone writes an article breaking this down then it is all supposition. Spike 'em (talk) 14:55, 16 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Spike 'em: So what do you think should be done?Dr Samkiv Kumar (talk) 11:17, 16 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think you need to stop making disruptive edits. Spike 'em (talk) 16:45, 21 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring sock puppet edit

Dear Dr S / whatever you call yourself this time: Please stop edit warring, only major teams go into the infobox. Spike 'em (talk) 10:03, 7 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Teams in the infobox edit

We've now run out of team slots in the infobox. I suggest that we:

  • make sure that all his major teams are mentioned in the prose - possibly for T20 adding a list
  • remove all teams from the infobox that he only played for for one season
  • add a note to the infobox to show this

That should allow the list of teams to be managed more effectively. Blue Square Thing (talk) 09:06, 22 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Encyclopedic tone edit

The introduction to this article is a bit of a mish mash of facts and figures, and has some dodgy grammar and capitalisation to boot. 85.210.24.74 (talk) 18:55, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
