Chita/Rita edit

I'm surprised nothing is mentioned of the frequent confusion generated by the similar roles and names of Chita and Rita Moreno (spoofed so effectively in Forbidden Broadway years ago.) 206.218.208.57 19:44, 14 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dancer's Life redirect edit

Anyone know whay Chits Rivera: A Dancer's Life redirects back to this article? It was a full Broadway show that was nominated for standard Tony and Drama Desk awards. It deserves it's own synopsis, song list, critical response section, etc, don't we agree? ChrisStansfield Contribs 15:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • ChrisStansfield, I also agree with you, "A Dancer's Life" deserves its own article. Redirecting Chits Rivera: A Dancer's Life to Rivera's bio doesn't make any sense at all. Would you consider writing a "stub" for A Dancer's Life? Tony the Marine (talk) 08:03, 27 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • Done. Well, actually, I went a little above and beyond my mandate- I think I went straight from stub to full-fledged article (I felt like putting in time for a stub wasn't worth it when a little extra time would make it into something.) Jones Haywood School edit

I changed the article to reflect the correct name of the Jones-Haywood School of Ballet (now the Jones Haywood School of Dance). I see that others have changed it to Hayward in the past, but the founder's name was Claire Haywood ([1], among other reliable sources).Carlaclaws (talk) 17:43, 13 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Chita Rivera edit

I love her!

In a CBS interview by Mo Rocca, he mentions her birth name was Dolores Conchita Figueroa del Rivero to which she retorts, "Nice Jewish name." [1]
I infer from her comment that she's Jewish... but is that what she was implying? Darr247 (talk) 19:13, 24 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Her father was Catholic and her mother Jewish. It has not been stated if she was raised in either religion, nor if as an adult she converted to Judaism or vice versa. It would be nice to find out what religion she belongs to, if any. Tony the Marine (talk) 23:11, 24 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Family name hatnote edit

Template:Family name hatnote#Usage says "This template is put at the top of a biographical article to explain to readers which part of a name is the family name," and Wikipedia:Hatnote#Placement says "Hatnotes are placed at the top of the article or section." Is there any reason why this page shouldn't be following that clearly stated precedent? QuietHere (talk) 04:48, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Nowhere in Wikipedia does it state that the Spanish naming customs can not be placed as a "note" which is less annoying and distracting to our readers then a template at the top of a biographical article. Tony the Marine (talk) 09:17, 29 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
    • "Less annoying and distracting" is a subjective statement, one that I happen to disagree with (Personally I find it harder to read because the text is smaller -- the way the formatting works inside of the note bubble doesn't help -- and it throws me off because it's such a singular break from the top-of-the-page precedent that every other article on the website follows), hence opening this discussion. And the pages I linked to/quoted seem pretty clear to me. Sure, they don't explicitly say to not do it your way, but isn't that something one should reasonably assume anyway when they specifically say to do it in one certain way? • Nobody has ever complained since I wrote the article in August 15, 2004‎, some 16 years ago. None of our readers. Remember Wikipedia isn't about what we like or dislike. We're not going to make this a big issue. Take care my friend, you are one of the good ones here. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:59, 30 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
