Assessment edit

I have assessed this as Start Class, as it contains plenty of detail and organization, but lacks form and style. Moreover, references that are "to be added" are completely unacceptable for Wikipedia. The article also needs to decide whether it wants to be a list or a work of prose, because right now it's a messy and almost unreadable hybrid of both. I have assessed this as mid importance, as it is a broad category of a topic in Canada. Cheers, CP 14:40, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Canadian Paul, Sorry for the rough-ness of this article. I created it after realizing that even though WIkipedia has huge articles on every unpublished Manga series, 21st place Olympic atheletes (I read your user page),k local garage band that plays at the campus pub, and aspiring singer-songwriter who has recorded a demo on their tape recorder, there was no Canadian blues article. To create the article, I just did a rough list of the important blues musicians, blues labels, and festivals, so, as you point out, there's lots of content, but little form, style, and references. It was just to get an article going. I hope to be able to work on it more in coming months...plus other contributors are doing their part. OnBeyondZebrax (talk) 19:27, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Propose removal of Richard Carr edit

Hi, I propose that we remove Richard Carr from the "artists of national and international prominence" section. There should be a high bar for inclusion in this section, which could include elements such as national awards, national or international touring (especially as an invitee to blues festivals), and high-profile magazine reviews. The other people in this section have achievements such as Juno awards, albums that are reviewed in major international Blues mags, and a long list of national and international Blues festival appearances. Carr is an emerging artist who right now is playing within his province (e.g., the 2007 Centreville en Blues (Riviere du Luop) 2006 SIMMM (Place des Arts) Maximum Blues Festival (2005), Weekend En Blues, Octobre en Blues, Festival Blues De St-Fortunat and Cancer en Blues (2005)), and gigs in venues across Montreal).

As far as the 2006 LYS Blues award, unfortunately, it is not notable from a Wikipedia perspective. It is an Internet-based fan award, in which fans go to the www.lenetblues.com website and vote for their favorite performers. A proper award has a panel of expert judges who are esteemed within their field for their experience and achievement, not an open Internet vote (similar to American Idol, with its phone-voting system). If we allow Carr to stay up, then we will have to allow in every provincial-level or regional Blues performer, and this section will have 50 names.OnBeyondZebrax (talk) 19:15, 1 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Since no one spoke out in defense of keeping the Carr section, I am proceeding to remove it. As I outlined above, the Carr section was added to a section about "Performers with national or international prominence". Mr. Carr has achieved Quebec-wide prominence, but I cannot find evidence of performances at major Canadian blues festivals outside of Quebec (e.g., Toronto, Ottawa, etc.). Moreover, the award that the section indicates is not Wikipedia-notable. The LYS Blues Award is determined by fan voting on the Internet, not by a panel of Blues experts.OnBeyondZebrax (talk) 14:05, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Music of CANADA, right? edit

I would think that in the article, even in the area of mentioning the music festivals, there are many famous Canadian musicians that better represent Canada and it's music (the topic of this article, right?) Thus, I removed Guitar Shorty from the end of the article. Might I suggest placing Canadian performers that range from the former members of The Band, Neil Young, etc, instead of people from other places? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 08:28, 2 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
