Trump Era edit

Will be looking for specifics during the Trump administration and will contribute as well. With the new addition of Walter M. Shaub Jr.

Restored old version of this page edit

I have restored this page to a July 2017 version, prior to substantial edits by a staffer of the organization. Some of this content should probably be added back to the page, but it is important that it be discussed here first, and then implemented by an editor without a COI. I'm happy to take a look at proposed content and implement it. Marquardtika (talk) 21:12, 6 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Activities edit

Done with slight rewording In 2017, CLC attorneys represented[1] Wisconsin voters in a case to the U.S. Supreme Court, Gill v. Whitford. CLC’s Paul Smith argued the case[2] before the Court on October 3, 2017. CLC attorneys represent North Carolina voters in the gerrymandering case Rucho v. Common Cause (Docket No. 18-422), before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2019[3].

Done with website name removed In 2018, CLC launched a website RestoreYourVote.org for citizens felony convictions to understand their voting rights in all 50 states.n[4]

Done with rewording (included alleging) In 2018, CLC was critical of the Trump campaign’s illegal coordination efforts, including filing several complaints with the FEC for illegally coordinating with the NRA.[5] [6]

Done In 2006, CLC testified[7] before Congress in support of reauthorizing the Voting Rights Act (VRA).

Yes, that is what I wanted on there.   Done It's not clear what you're asking to be included here; just that he was on TV? CLC’s Potter also appeared on Face the Nation[8] and 60 Minutes[9] in 2018 to discuss President Trump’s potential campaign finance violations related to the hush money paid by Michael Cohen to Stormy Daniels.

Done Prior to the 2018 election, CLC attorneys represented Native American voters in a case challenging North Dakota’s voter ID law[10]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theaaronmichael (talkcontribs) 18:14, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Theaaronmichael: were you intending to make an edit request? Marquardtika (talk) 18:09, 21 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Marquardtika: Yes, that was my intention
Ok, thanks, I went ahead and added an edit request template for you. An uninvolved editor should be by soon to take a look at your request. Marquardtika (talk) 19:00, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've made the requested edits (notes about any adjustments above). If this is insufficient, please open a new edit request. Orville1974talk 21:04, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Theaaronmichael: That last edit regarding the TV appearance has now been done. Orville1974talk 21:47, 24 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Edit request from COI editor edit

Add this paragraph below the "In 2018" paragraph:

During the 2020 elections, CLC worked on voting issues in states across the U.S. amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It sued states the states of Pennsylvania[1], New York[2], New Jersey[3], Rhode Island[4], and North Dakota[5] over restrictive signature match rules that prevented voters with disabilities, racial minority voters, and voters who were non-Native English speakers from having their votes count at disproportionately high[6] rates.

See this edit by Frida Fresca (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who declared COI in her edit summary. I moved it here but don't have time to review it; I do not have COI with the subject. —C.Fred (talk) 21:18, 2 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done : with minor rewording, for a typo, a superfluous adjective, and I moved a citation Of the universe (talk) 17:03, 8 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Add in Sentence After "The CLC supported the For the People Act." edit

CLC also supports the Freedom to Vote Act[1] and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.[2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frida Fresca (talkcontribs) 17:13, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Add Three Sentences in the Same Paragraph After the Sentence Ending, "...before the Court on October 3, 2017." edit

He also joined[1] the litigation team for the partisan gerrymandering case Rucho v. Common Cause. CLC has supported the citizen advocacy group, Voters Not Politicians (VNP), as it worked to implement an independent redistricting commission in Michigan and has protected Michigan’s commission from legal challenges following its implementation.[2] In 2021, CLC relaunched PlanScore.org, a web tool which uses historical data to help people understand proposed district maps and determine whether they are fair or gerrymandered.[3] Qu3ll Quiet (talk) 20:20, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Qu3ll QuietReply

Re: Edit request from COI editor edit

@Marquardtika: @Orville: @Wikipietime: @C.Fred:, or any other editors without COI, could you please let me know if/when you would be able to review the 2020 voting rights content that I suggested about a month ago? The main reason it would be good to have on the page is that CLC does a lot more than campaign finance work, but it would be hard to know that based on what is on the Wikipedia page now. I think adding in that information would make CLC's Wikipedia page more accurate. Thank you!

Not for the page, but here are just a few examples of other things CLC does besides work on campaign finance issues:

Stopping voter suppression: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/civic-groups-file-lawsuit-challenging-absentee-ballot-provisions/story?id=76945055

Congressional stock trades: https://www.npr.org/2021/09/22/1039287987/outside-ethics-group-says-7-house-lawmakers-didnt-disclose-stock-trades

@Qu3ll Quiet: In general, requests will go much faster if you properly format them using templates provided in the editing interface. Otherwise, editors have to spend time doing so themselves. If you still want this content added, feel free to format them appropriately and I'd be happy to add content to the article. Also, remember to sign contributions you make to the Talk Page with ~~~~ .
