this article has a frighteningly pro-CIIS undertone; it does not seem to conform to the neutral POV criterion.

Yes, I believe the culprit is Psykhosis, who apparently works for the school. Notice how the previous discussion has been "archived" (effectively, deleted so people won't see criticisms of the school). It's a basic problem with Wikipedia--in the case of an obscure topic, where there's not a lot of neutral people around to keep things honest, how can we prevent "believers" with lots of time on their hands, from controlling the content?

Ooo..."culprit"! I like that! And a "believer" no less! I'm so devious and unscrupulous! Mwuhahaha! For the record, however, I am not an employee of CIIS. Not a very good way to step in, there; however I will assume good faith and guess that your offensive language is an unintended and well-meaning faux pas rather than an intentional insult. Despite my sinister attempt to control the content of this article, you do actually have the ability to make edits. If you choose to do so, perhaps you might consider being more polite. Update: despite your rudeness, you are right in that some POV language was certainly there. I took out some of the more obvious cases. Psykhosis 00:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
And despite Psykhosis' flippancy and (apparent) removal of "some of the more obvious cases" of POV language, the entire article still reads like PR material produced by the Institute itself. Matt Thorn (talk) 05:48, 20 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I second this remark. I think there has to be a paragraph somewhere in the article of red meat criticism. People need to get both sides of the picture. Paulhummerman (talk) 02:14, 8 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notability edit

I don't think this article meets the notability guidelines. Can anyone provide WP:RS that establish significant, independent coverage? Verbal chat 21:24, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Would you be so kind as to tell me which of the 19 external link no-nos you think that I violated? — goethean 21:25, 5 November 2009 (UTC) Looks like number nine. — goethean 21:34, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
The lack of WP:RS in general is also a problem, so I've added both tags until this is resolved. Verbal chat 09:09, 6 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Revoked APA accreditation edit

A user has removed the following sourced statement from the article without explanation:

In 2003, the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program in Clinical Psychology earned the accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA), although the accreditation has been revoked and is currently on appeal.[1]
  1. ^ Accredited Programs in Clinical Psychology, American Psychological Association. Accessed on line December 11, 2011.

Regardless of the eventual outcome, this seems an important and well-referenced fact. I have reverted the deletion to give 309rockyjs a chance to explain his or her actions.

Factual errors, updates needed. COI disclosure edit

I am a doctoral student and administrator at CIIS. While the edits I am suggesting are, in my opinion, unbiased and unambiguously factual, I am disclosing a potential COI and asking someone else to implement them. I've listed the changes to include factual information, with citation where applicable.

1) CIIS is a private, non-profit institution of higher education... 2) Following a merger with the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (official on July 1, 2015)[1], CIIS now includes 3 campuses: 1453 Mission St., 455 Arkansas St., and 555 De Haro St (one in SOMA, the other two in Potrero Hill). 3) Following the merger with ACTCM, CIIS now consists of 4 schools: The School of Professional Psychology and Health, the School of Consciousness and Transformation, the School of Undergraduate Studies, and the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine at CIIS. 4) Along with WASC accreditation, ACTCM at CIIS's Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM) degree as well as its clinical Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree are also accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).[2] footnotes2plato.com (talk) 23:55, 30 July 2015 (UTC)footnotes2platoReply

CIIS History timeline edit

Sources seem to support the observation that there were 2 instituitions leading up to the founding of CIIS. I notice that the present Wikipedia article regards 1968 as the founding year of CIIS. This is probably a correct assertion, considering that the institution that was actually formed in 1968, the California Institute of Asian Studies, seems to have been the immediate precursor to CIIS. However, a few sources state that this entity, the California Institute of Asian Studies, in the period from 1968-74, was an educational branch of the Cultural Integration Fellowship. In fact, CIIS history (www.ciis.edu) is a bit vague about what the institution actually was called in the period from 1968-74. It is just referred to as "the Institute". I have tried to construct a timeline based on the sources so far. It goes like this.

  • American Academy of Asian Studies (1951-1968)

Source: Subbiondo (2011)

  • California Institute of Asian Studies as Educational branch of Cultural Integration Fellowship (1968-1974)

Source: CIIS Archives (David Ulansey); www.ciis.edu

  • California Institute of Asian Studies (1974-1980)

Source: www.ciis.edu; culturalintegrationfellowship.org

  • California Institute of Integral Studies (1980-Present)

Source: www.ciis.edu; Voigt (1985)

More input on this matter is welcomed.Hawol (talk) 19:30, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
