I am a contractor for the University of California, Santa Cruz(UCSC), and, specifically, I am contracted to be the webmaster for the University of California High-Performance AstroComputing Center (UC-HiPACC), which is headquartered at UCSC. In this capacity, I contributed to Wikipedia the articles on UC-HiPACC, and on the Bolshoi Cosmological Simulation. I have written a draft of an article on "Project AGORA." Word "Bolshoi" edit

Bolshoi website says: “Bolshoi” is the Russian word for “great” or “grand”. Well, that's not true. I presume the person who wrote that phrase of the website doesn't know Russian language. I do. Concerning Russian grammar, "bolshoi" here looks a bit strange, because it's of masculine gender, while "simulation" in Russian would be "modelirovanniye" (lit. "modelling") of neuter gender. So "bolshoi modelirovanniye" is grammatically incorrect, "bolshoye modelirovanniye" is correct. As of meaning nuances "bolshoi" is ok here. E.g. "bolshoye delo" is close in meaning to "big deal", "bolshaya rabota" (lit. "big work/job") means great raw volume of work or its hardness in some sense, while "velikaya rabota" would mean an outstanding result obtained or a piece of true art, opus magna. 178.46.91.236 (talk) 20:21, 5 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
