Head Coaching Record edit

Some LSU troll seemed to have discovered how to edit the coaching record. It's clearly incorrect now, here's a link of Stoops' coaching record if needed for correction: http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/coaches/bob-stoops-1.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheJewishGuy1994 (talkcontribs) 02:01, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Untitled edit

The record for him should still be 86 wins. OU has filed an appeal and until there is a decision made on that the wins still count.

I would agree, but unless the page got semi-protection over the next month or so while the appeals process works, there would be some yahoo in here every day changing the records. But you're right (Mr. Anaonymous) in that the penalty doesn't kick in until an appeal has been denied. --WTStoffs 20:53, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
My editing of the Coach's record was primarily motivated to establish consistency among all the pages referring to the team's record in 2005. Some featured 8-4 and some featured 0-4. If it is indeed true that the wins still count until the appeal has been denied, then the record on all the pages should reflect this. J. Charles Taylor 06:42, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think this thing could be greatly improved. I'll do as I can tonight, but perhaps we could get some others to help? Sir Elderberry 23:17, 26 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Has an aptitude for beating Texas.

Has done in an impressive job over his 7 years at Oklahoma while losing a contributing assistant coach every year.

This is not an NPOV, its a biography, I'm removing the tag. I don't see any discussion about it being an NPOV here. - Hard Raspy Sci 15:06, 18 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Number of siblings? edit

This article states "Stoops, one of 6 children born to Ron Sr. and Evelyn "Dee Dee" Stoops in Youngstown, Ohio." While the Mike Stoops article says he is "Stoops, one of 10 children born to Ron and Dee Stoops". Are there 6 or 10 children in the family? I haven't found a source for either, so I'm removing it from both articles until one is verified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LazyLizaJane (talkcontribs) 16:42, 1 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Needs updating edit

Text under "University of Oklahoma" heading looks like it needs some updating regarding career totals etc. Also the contract information towards the bottom of this section is ambiguous, especially the very last paragraph which is unacceptably vague.

I also suggest that the page "Oklahoma football under Bob Stoops" be elimimated, which I will discuss on that particular talk page. That would entail eliminating the reference to it from this page.151.213.40.224 (talk) 22:48, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Should the number for the years he coached be 1999-2016 or -2017? You can consult the history to see the edit war. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 16:56, 11 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Survey edit

  • 2017 See 2017 Sugar Bowl. While that was the 2016 season the game took place in 2017. Also, he continued to be a part fo the team until end of school 2017, so it should reflect that. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 17:00, 11 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • 2016 – Even though the bowl game was played in January 2017, it was still the 2016 season. If I remember right, the standard is to list the season they last coached in, so marking 2017 as his last season would be misleading to visitors. His retirement in June 2017 is noted in the article. • 2016 This is standard procedure for how we deal with tenures for college football coaches. We go by the season in question, not the calendar date. And, moreover, I object to the notion of an RFC specifically on just Stoops rather than the set of all coaches who have also ended their tenure at a given school by coaching in a January bowl game. Jweiss11 (talk) 04:33, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • 2016 per standard. He coached until the 2016 season. The 2017 Sugar Bowl was part of the 2016 season. Lizard (talk) 04:57, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • 2016. If you wanted to get really technical you could say he coached from 1999-00 through 2016-17, but that's not how we refer to college football seasons on Wikipedia. Jhn31 (talk) 02:32, 13 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • 2016; it's a season designation, not an actual date.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  19:23, 20 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • 2016 - Summoned by bot. Follow the standard of using the season year not calendar year otherwise its a bit misleading to readers. Also, as Corkythehornetfan, his June 2017 retirement is clarified in the body to avoid any confusion. Meatsgains (talk) 12:10, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pinging Corkythehornetfan because I saw you in the history of the page talking about a standard. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 21:50, 11 June 2017 (UTC) Reply

Yes, it would make more sense to have an RfC about this situation in general. There's nothing that unique about Stoops here. For example, Rich Rodriguez's last game coached at Michigan was the 2011 Gator Bowl, played on January 1, 2011, but we denote his tenure at Michigan as "2008–2010". I'm sure there are many other examples like this. Barry Alvarez, Bo Schembechler, and Lloyd Carr are others like this. Jweiss11 (talk) 16:04, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
This also applies to NFL coaches and players as well. Ray Lewis' final game was Super Bowl XLVII, played in February 2013, but his playing years are given as 1996–2012. Lizard (talk) 17:03, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • Pretty clear consensus for 2016, this can be closed anytime as far as I am concerned. If no new !votes or comments happen before 6/26/17, I'll close it as 2016. d.g. L3X1 (distænt write) )evidence( 17:27, 22 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Infobox entry on XFL edit

Please refrain from inserting the Infobox entry for the "Dallas XFL team, 2020 - " until the team actually begins play. — MarkH21 (talk) 21:50, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment @MarkH21: Why is this the policy? Stoops is the acting head coach and general manager? The league is operating preparations for its first draft and season. Stoops recently threw out the first pitch at a Texas Rangers game representing the Dallas XFL team. He is the head coach holding staff meetings.[1] Is Freddie Kitchens the head coach of the Cleveland Browns? Why is it allowed to say Head coach 2019 since the 2019 NFL season hasn't yet begun? I am confused on this application. When staffs change in December or January, we don't wait until August to say they have been hired. This spring league is awkward but Stoops has been hired and the mini-camp begins in December. So should it say 2019 and then visible now? Americanfootballupdater (talk) 23:29, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment @Cbl62:@Jweiss11: Would someone else like to weight in here? I don't want to go against convention, but I do not understand this. We are under 8 months from the first game of the 2020 spring season. That is the same amount of time when a typical NCAA CFB or NFL coaching change would happen. Americanfootballupdater (talk) 19:55, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
As far I know there's no proscription on listing future positions in this way. Seem to be done for the other XFL coaches like Kevin Gilbride, June Jones, Marc Trestman, et al. Jweiss11 (talk) 20:22, 11 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I made this request because proposed leagues and teams frequently fold (or renamed / changed) before beginning play, e.g. Professional Spring Football League, Global Hockey League, All-American Professional Basketball League (2005). It's not an established league, so it's best to wait until the season actually begins. I wasn't thorough and extend this across other articles - this originally caught my attention due to some edits that were made during very preliminary stages. — MarkH21 (talk) 01:23, 12 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
