Naming of the show edit

Housemate Table edit

I moved the Housemate table to the Bigg_Boss_(Season_1) page as I felt that the table was better suited to the Season 1 page than the main Bigg Boss page. This change has been reverted as it was felt that the move was unconstructive. If people feel that the season 1 housemate table is better suited to this page than the season 1 page then shouldn't a season 2 housemate table be moved to here as well? – I could not find sources to support that each season was individually numbered by the broadcaster or the production company for most of the editions above. The only exception I could find is for the Telagu edition of the program which started to number individual seasons starting with season two. For this reason I have excluded the individual season articles of the Telagu edition as this would prove to be very controversial and needs a wider discussion as per the previous move request.

I also could not find any reliable sources that include the region in the name of the main program. In an effort to align the naming convention guidelines of WP:BIGBRO with the established guidelines of WP:NCTV I'm proposing we move the individual season articles to the names suggested. For the Bigg Boss article I propose that the page be turned into a disambig page for the 6 seperate editions of Bigg Boss. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 20:48, 21 June 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. bd2412 T 17:34, 3 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Neutral/weak oppose (for now) per reasons from previous discussion. (However, the suggested versions SHOULD BE CREATED AS REDIRECTS). Also, I'm not sure about the suggested new title for "Bigg Boss". All the series titled "Bigg Boss" are also "Indian TV series", so that might not be the best disambiguator. Paintspot Infez (talk) 23:10, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • @Paintspot: If the disambig tag (Indian TV season) is the issue should it be changed to something else like (Hindi TV season) instead? ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 23:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Yeah, I think that might work better for the seasons of the Hindi series! ...Also, hmmm, is the Hindi series a primary topic for the name "Bigg Boss"? It currently occupies that basename, but it's up to the consensus on whether it needs to be disambiguated with the rest. Paintspot Infez (talk) 00:04, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • @Paintspot: Not sure how well this works my first time with move requests lol. I updated the request to have the Hindi articles moved to (Hindi TV series) and (Hindi season x). As of now the Hindi version is acting like the WP:PRIMARY topic since it is using the general Bigg Boss article names. Once the move is complete the article name for Bigg Boss can be turned into a disambiguate page so readers can select the version they want to read about. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 00:21, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Alright, thanks for fixing that first one. I definitely support a move from "Bigg Boss" to either "Bigg Boss (Hindi TV series)" or "Bigg Boss Hindi", since "Bigg Boss (franchise)" should take up the basename. Paintspot Infez (talk) 22:29, 4 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak oppose: I do support the redirect versions and oppose renaming of pages. FYI, the second seasons of Kannada, Telugu and Bengali versions have been numbered officially while the Hindi version was numbered till season 8. For the purpose of disambiguation, a general article Bigg Boss (franchise) has been created to highlight all language versions of Bigg Boss. AkshayAnandTalk! 04:22, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
The individual seasons for the Telugu version are not part of this discussion for that reason. The Kannada version does not refer to their editions as Bigg Boss 2 that can be verified by looking at the logos provided for each article and the sources within the articles. In this article from Times of India [1] the fifth season of the Kannada version is referred to as Bigg Boss season 5. The Bengali version has no individual season articles on English Wikipedia and are not being discussed in this move request. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 06:02, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
    Yeah, this doesn't seem like a valid oppose rationale.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  18:51, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support as long as the title really is Big Boss and not Big Brother Whatever, (or something in Tamil, etc., with English-language source actually preferring the non-English name, which seems unlikely). This "Title_here x (Country_name_here)" stuff is just aberrant. We don't do that with any articles titles about anything, meanwhile we have a stable and site-wide TV convention of "Title_here (season X)", from which there is no reason to diverge in this case.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  06:19, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • This would be easier if this was move was split for each version.
    • For Bangla, I have no idea what the name is. While the official (I think) website, Facebook page and listing on endemolshineindia call it "Bigg Boss Bangla", the images show only "Bigg Brother". In addition, they call each season "season". Sources" [2] [3] [4].
    • For Kannada, while the uses "Bigg Boss Kannada", the images on the thumbnails are showing only "Bigg Boss". In addition, they call each season "season" as can be seen here.
    • For Tamil, it's just "Bigg Boss" and uses "seasons" as can be seen here and here.
    • For Telugu, the official website uses "Bigg Boss" [5].
    • For Malayalam, while the show has not started and sources call it "Bigg Boss Malayalam", the promo seen here just says "Bigg Boss" at the end.
    • For Marathi, it would seem is actually "Bigg Boss Marathi" and uses seasons as seen here. I can't read the language so I have no idea what actually is written under the "Bigg Boss" image in English but the website calls it "Bigg Boss Marathi".

So after all that - Support for Bangla using seasons; Kannada using seasons; Tamil using seasons and calling it "Big Boss (Tamil)"; Telugu changed to "Bigg Boss (Telugu); Marathi using seasons. Need more information regarding the name of Bangla, Kannada, Malayalam and Marathi. --Gonnym (talk) 14:33, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

The sources cited are not the ones who own the show/format. Newspapers and news agencies do not use uniform names and refer seasons as without mentioning the word 'season' sometimes. However, all the seasons in all the languages are referred with the word 'season' by the hosts and housemates. This is well-known among the shows' viewers in India, including me. The shows' official names have been listed under Version History sub-heading in Bigg Boss (franchise) article.

For the purpose of uniformity, I still oppose the above suggestion and suggest all the following article names should be left as they are to stay at par with Big Brother articles. The main articles may be renamed to include '(Series)' in the name.

(Bangla series does not have articles for seasons yet; Hindi series' season 12 article has not been created yet) AkshayAnandTalk! 17:07, 22 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

You might have missed some links as some obviously are official in some capacity (even if not the main website, which if you do have, please share). Also, if you agree that seasons are called seasons, why are you advocating using a number instead? Regarding your official names over at the Version History sub-heading at the Bigg Boss (franchise), there are zero sources cited in that section. Lastly, the name cannot be renamed (Series) as that isn't a valid option (see WP:NCTV). --Gonnym (talk) 00:08, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
And AkshayAnand doesn't appear to understand our titles and disambiguation system anyway. We don't use upper-case disambiguators, and even with the upper case removed, "(series)" isn't a parenthetic disambiguator we use for television. More importantly, the titles of these shows are not Bigg Boss Tamil, etc., so we should not be using such strings in our article titles; it's making up fake names. I get the feeling that AkshayAnand is approaching this from a "what I would name directories of MP4s on my hard drive" kind of perspective.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  18:54, 25 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@SMcCandlish:, I agree to your comment that my approach was more personal than Wikipedic. I support the earlier suggestions to rename the following articles.

But, as few seasons had different official names (such as Bigg Boss: Season 6, Bigg Boss Sath 7, Bigg Boss 8, Bigg Boss Double Trouble for seasons 6, 7, 8 and 9 of Hindi series respectively) how would these individual season articles be renamed to remain consistent? AkshayAnandTalk! 04:33, 26 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Big Boss remains a common element in all of them. The "Season 6" or just "7" by itself appears to be a season designation and may have appeared in some logos and other marketing, but doesn't appear to make it a new, different actual title per se. As long as redirects for such forms exist, all is well. It's more WP:CONSISTENT and understandable to do it this way than to try to mimic the logo stuff. We have in a handful of cases gone with a variant title, but only for unusual reasons. E.g. Torchwood (season 4) and Torchwood (series 4) redirect to Torchwood: Miracle Day. However, this is a special case because a) Miracle Day wasn't a normal season of "story of the week" episodes, but a single long story split into parts (i.e. it was a serial, a unitary work – a "mega-episode"), and b) it was a completely separate production, an American–British near-reboot, radically different from the rest of the series. Even calling it season/series 4 is a bit of a misnomer).  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  04:56, 26 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Weak oppose this is all coming too soon. If you go by the WP:COMMONNAME then you can agree that these names are more popular as Hindi serials and thus their title should remain as it is right now. Abhi88iisc (talk) 21:10, 27 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Note: I was only referring to the first set from "Bigg Boss" to "Bigg Boss 11" in this above comment of mine. Other titles (Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi) are not bad currently but I don't oppose moving them. Abhi88iisc (talk) 21:13, 27 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

– There are 7 TV shows named Bigg Boss. While the Hindi version is the original one, the franchise should be at the base name, with the Hindi series being disimbiguated by the language, as both country-adjective (Indian) and/or year would still leave these versions somewhat insufficiently disambiguated from one another, as all 7 are from India and all shown during the same years (with 2 sets of 2 shows being debuted on the same year). The seasons up until season 8 all used "Bigg Boss season x" in their logo and not "Bigg Boss x" (this can be seen in the season articles). Season 8 did use "Bigg Boss 8" in the logo, while the other seasons either used a title (Bigg Boss: Double Trouble for season 9) or just used the base name. Per WP:CONSISTENCY they should all use the same title naming style. Per WP:NCTV and based on the first 7 seasons and the last one, that should be (Hindi season x). Consensus means that there needs to be a discussion about replacing this one table in the article with one that is formatted very differently from the others. The edit-protected request template is meant for changes that are likely to be uncontroversial. I am not involved here; discuss amongst yourselves and come to a consensus. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:27, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

User:Gonnym User:Alucard 16 User:Cyphoidbomb User:Pàgjk could you all look at this please. The table has many issues as Bigg Boss series table should be the same like Big Brother. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:4C8:41:E6FF:544E:DCC7:3B46:60CE (talk) 14:31, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes I also think bigg boss table should be like big brother only. So you all should as I think please stop your creativity on it. Pàgjk (talk) 15:34, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Is there is any problem with big brother table. Pàgjk (talk) 15:40, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes it needs to be like the one above the one that is currently being used isn’t correct User:Pawan Sparkle has been keep putting all tables like that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A01:4C8:41:E6FF:4042:5427:1DE5:E095 (talk) 15:43, 5 September 2020 (UTC) Ok now I think discussion should over because the table which is currently in article has no problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pàgjk (talkcontribs) 15:49, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Already done I didn't get the ping due to incorrect formatting. Looks like this table has been implemented which is the correct table to be used in accordance with MOS:TVOVERVIEW which overrides any consensus in accordance with the overall consensus of WP:BIGBRO aligning with existing Wikipedia policies, guidelines and manuals of style. If any other Bigg Boss are using the old table they should be replaced. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 10:55, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Bigg Boss (Hindi TV series) → ? – Just reverted an undiscussed move from March to Big Boss (Salman Khan’s TV Series) (note the missing second G). The user who made the move said, "It was also English". I don't have a lot of Indian TV knowledge, but I wanted to at least open an RM so more knowledgeable people can figure out if this is the right disambiguator or not. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 18:05, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

This should be the right place. The India variants of Big Brother all use the Bigg Boss spelling (see Bigg Boss). As for the disambiguation, there was a good discussion about this at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Big_Brother/Archive_7, where the current format was decided. Generally, the dab would be the country, but since there are multiple variants in India, using only the language along with the spelling unique to the India variants was the preferred approach. Ravensfire (talk) 21:34, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ravensfire Yeah, I thought the current title made sense but at least wanted to procedurally open an RM to decide if there was a more appropriate disambiguator ("Salman Khan's TV series" is not it for sure). Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 00:05, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
