Renaming the article edit

I think this article should be renamed as Bangalore International Airport. Any objections??. If not I will move it tomorrow. Leotolstoy 21:29, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Support - The article is about the airport and not about the builders company. The lead sentence also introduces the airport and not the limited. Thanks - KNM Talk 21:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have moved the article to Bangalore International Airport. If there is any problem please discuss here before reverting. Leotolstoy 19:37, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

i think name is now changed to bangaluru international airport and the logo is also changed Naveenpf (talk) 05:53, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Airport code edit

Will the new airport retain the BLR and VOBG codes that are currently associated with the HAL airport? The first paragraph assumes that. Is there a source for this? If it is speculative, can we put a footnote?

The new ICAO Designator Code is VOBL. I think IATA may retain BLR.

Irrelevant data edit

The data in the introduction: Bangalore Airport is ranked fourth fastest growing international airport in 2007, with a 33.8% increase in passenger traffic... is irrelevant as it is about a 2007 survey, yet this airport did not open till 2008. It should be moved to the page for the old airport (which the data applies to) or deleted. Jer.dv (talk) 06:04, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, if you'll see the report properly, you'll see that it refers particularly to the new one. Swaroop (talk) 12:39, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Airline names edit

There seems to have been some controversy going on over the past couple of days about the names of airlines vis-a-vis their owners. I have deleted the names of the owners/parent companies from the table in the article, since these are already mentioned in the main articles about the airlines. If you have any objections to this, please post a comment here before making an edit, so that we can build consensus. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 10:54, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Air India and Indian Airlines remain separate companies (legally and operationally); they should and will continue to be listed separately until the merger is completed (if ever that happens). This has been discussed to death in the past, before arriving at this consensus.
In the case of Kingfisher, I do agree that there's no need for a distinction. Both 'mainline' and Red are both now the same company - a full legal and operational merger was completed a while ago, and their operating certificates were also merged. Unlike what another user said recently, there is no parent-subsidiary relationship between Kingfisher and Red; a company can't have a relationship with itself!
The only difference between the two is basically the service levels - but it is one airline, unlike AI-IC-CD-IX.
In any event, making such a change just in the Bangalore airport article is not really helpful, because its something that impacts the articles of all the airports served by these six airlines. Jasepl (talk) 11:11, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Should the table entries for KF and KF Red be merged, then? For now, let's concentrate on this article - others can be changed too. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 11:18, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
As an interim measure, I've updated the table to show just Kingfisher Red per consensus above. This can be changed further as this discussion progresses. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 11:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good - its at least a start! I suggesting merging the Kingfisher and Red destination pages a couple of weeks ago, but haven't checked if there was any response or objection. As for the individual articles, my opinion is that they should all be listed under Kingfisher - because that's the airline. Red is increasingly little more than a marketing tool. Jasepl (talk) 13:57, 28 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Indian Airlines is now known as Air India IC, per their website. I have updated the data accordingly. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 04:54, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I am out of this bloody discussion. Do what you want, I don't care. How can a subsidary opeate a parent company? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 16:11, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Busiest airports in india edit

See the statistics published by the Airports Authority of India at http://www.aai.aero and one will find that the 10 busiest airports are (in order): Bombay, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Cochin, Ahmedabad, Goa, Trivandrum. Jasepl (talk) 06:51, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Do you really want to depend on the AAI's website?

--Rsrikanth05 (talk) 10:45, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely, given the fact that they publish detailed, monthly traffic reports; the most recent one being April 2009. Jasepl (talk) 10:54, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Then fine, go ahead.--Rsrikanth05 (talk) 11:20, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Air India @ Bangalore edit

Air India no longer fly to Bangalore. Granted, the flight may have an Air India code, and it may even be painted in the Air India livery, but the flight is flown by Indian Airlines, on aircraft owned by Indian Airlines. Air India simply place their code on the flight. Per the rules at WP:Airlines and WP:Airports, we list the operating carrier only, not the carrier(s) placing their code on such a flight. At this time, Air India and Indian Airlines have NOT merged. Ergo, Air India do NOT fly to Bangalore, Goa, Calcutta, etc.

  • Please do not add Bangalore as an AI destination, until the time (a) the two airlines merge, or (b) Air India start flying the route using their own aircraft. Thanks, Jasepl (talk) 08:44, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Repeat above comment.
  • Repeat hidden note: "AI no longer fly to Bangalore, from anywhere. All flights are operated by Indian Airlines (even if they also carry an Air India code)."
  • Also, please note that further additions of AI to the BLR dest list edits will amount to vandalism and will be reverted. Failure to stop vandalising will result in a ban. Jasepl (talk) 17:06, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Deccan Aviation edit

In the Info box of BLR, BLR is mentioned as a hub for Deccan Aviation but there is no mention of the same in the airlines' list. Now the question that arises is "Does Deccan Aviation still fly to Bangalore and if yes why hasn't the same been mentioned in the airlines list for BLR.
Abhishek191288 (talk) 17:10, 3 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Would anyone reply to this query and have a discussion???
Abhishek191288 (talk) 09:20, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Deccan Aviation, as far as my knowledge goes, (and as far as the Wikipedia Article knows), operates charter flights. I don't think that private charter airlines are usually listed in the Airlines list. Correct me if I'm wrong anywhere. MikeLynch (talk) 15:04, 18 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

United Airlines edit

I was surfing through an online booking portal(makemytrip), and I found that there exists a flight Flight# UA 8897 flying directly from Bangalore to Frankfurt Main. It is also mentioned that the flight is operated by Lufthansa. Also, Lufthansa operates separate flights(its own) from BLR to FRA. I guess the United Airlines flights are operated by a codeshare agreement. If this is so, what is the convention followed with reference to codeshare flights? MakingTheMarkWassup doc? 19:23, 25 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes the flight UA8897 is a Lufthansa flight (LH755) and is a code-share agreement between UA and LH. Code share flights are not mentioned in the destination list. The Lufthansa flights LH755 is also a code share between LH and Air India (marketed as AI 8755). These code shares actually make travel and booking for passengers easy on airlines that do not cover a particular sector (BLR-FRA by UA in this case).-- Abhishek191288 (talk) 07:10, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
But, having a look at Malaysian Airlines operating from BLR, the flights are operated under the Air India number. (That is, for ex, the flight MH192 is operated as AI0192). Then, technically Malaysian Airlines should also not be mentioned. MakingTheMarkWassup doc? 11:42, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
AFAIK, the MH flight to Kuala Lumpur is a codeshare between 9W and MH. Air India does not have any codeshare with MH. --Abhishek191288 (talk) 13:04, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm...okay, coz when I went to Kuala Lumpur 5 years back, it was a codeshare with AI. Guess it has changed. In any case, since Malaysian Airlines is also mentioned, shouldn't UA also be mentioned? MakingTheMarkWassup doc? 17:49, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Malaysia Airlines is mentioned because it operates out of Bangalore to Kuala Lumpur with its own aircraft and cabin crew. UA cannot be mentioned because the flight is actually an LH flight from here to Frankfurt. If you make a booking from BLR to FRA on UA, it is simply transferred to LH. This is not a UA flight at all. --Abhishek191288 (talk) 09:49, 27 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Third busiest? edit

According to AAI, the passenger traffic figures for Chennai airport is 10.53 million whereas per BIAL, the passenger traffic figures is 11.24 million see media release article of 25 December (both figures for a span for 1 yr. MAA being from Sep 09 to Aug 10 while for BLR being from Jan to Dec 10). So isn't BLR now clearly the third busiest? Pls comment. —Abhishek191288 (talk) 17:30, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I guess so. Guess we can change the figures now. MakingTheMarkWassup doc? 08:39, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Intl destination map edit

International destinations of Bangalore airport

I had added intl destination map of bangalore airport which was removed twice. [1] I think it is very useful for readers despite the text list already mentions all intl destinations. Trotting cove (talk) 10:46, 9 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Useful or not, maps duplicate the information already included in the list of destinations.--Jetstreamer Talk 23:45, 10 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sunnya343 seems to be adding back the destinations map giving vague and invalid reasons [2]. Destinations list is not confusing and what to include in the list has been a long standing consensus, not mentioning direct but multiple hop flights in the list would make it incomplete. Direct flights can be either non-stop or with multiple stops in between. There is no consensus on inclusion of maps and if you feel the necessity, take it to WT:AIRPORT instead of blindly adding it again and again.  LeoFrank  Talk 07:11, 13 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
I think international route map is required. As already told in edit summary, many airport MIA, JNB, HNL, DUR, LAS wiki articles do have map. @Leofrank Please refrain from reverting due to WP:3R Trotting cove (talk) 06:04, 15 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
The reasons you give are invalid. See WP:OSE, looks like you're a newbie here.  LeoFrank  Talk 10:31, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Bangalore airport non-stop international destinations map

I have updated map for september, this shows only non-stop flights, not in the list mentioned. Destination List table doesnt separate intl and domestic, so this map is useful Trotting cove (talk) 04:19, 8 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your reason for re-inserting the map is the statement above which is a self proclaimed consensus on its inclusion. As stated clearly above by both Jetstreamer and me, it just a duplication and does not add any value. All the reasons you are giving for its inclusion are just invalid. There are discussions on WT:AIRPORT and most users are against its inclusion. So I suggest you to spend your time in something more productive than constantly re-adding the map without any solid reason and by just stating the map is useful.  LeoFrank  Talk 00:13, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Kingfisher and its operations edit

I have reverted Sunnya343's edits here again as this is completely irrelevant to this article. What Kingfisher did with their operations is suitable to Kingfisher's article and not BLR. Any comments are welcome.  LeoFrank  Talk 06:39, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am going off what I see in other airport articles, for example STL and CMH. The fact that Kingfisher wanted to turn BLR into a "hub for South India", and that its collapse created a gap at BLR that other airlines had to fill, makes Kingfisher significant to this airport. It certainly deserves its own paragraph here. But I will wait for others' opinions. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 15:36, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the removal. This stuff belongs in the airline's article and not here. Please bear in mind WP:NOTRAVEL.--Jetstreamer Talk 15:38, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Jetstreamer: Sorry but I don't understand. CMH, which is a GA, includes info about former hubs at the airport, for example Skybus Airlines' hub. Airline hubs are significant to airports, no? - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 15:42, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Sunnya343: BLR has no significant history other than being a replacement to the old airport. KF's plans were to make Bangalore Airport (be it HAL Airport or KIA) as a hub.  LeoFrank  Talk 15:52, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok, understood. I have kept info about KF as it was significant to BLR, but cut down and focused more on the hub aspect. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 04:22, 1 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Logo used in the infobox has fair-use rationale. Rest all images are from Commons and good to use.
  • No likely copyvios from Earwig's tool.
  • Please resolve the dead and suspicious links listed here.
The suspicious links aren't actually suspicious. They refer to the website Flightmapper.net, which provides timetables for most airlines around the world using data from the company Innovata (see here and here). I've included links to this site as, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/page content under the "Cargo airlines" section, a timetable reference should be listed for each cargo airline where available. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 15:20, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Fixed using Ucucha's duplinks tool. I left duplicate links in the "Ownership" as they are important there, and a reader may have skimmed over them in the History section. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 02:31, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Renaming section comes as a surprise when no other name is mentioned before it. What was it called before?

  • "same length as existing runway 09/27". What's that 09/27?
09/27 refers to the orientation of the runway. If you see the Runway section of the infobox, you will see the runway referred to this way. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 00:12, 1 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I get it now after reading Runway#Naming. Maybe you should add a foot note to explain this nomenclature style. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 08:25, 1 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I reworded the first paragraph to have it start with "Runway 09/27" so the reader will recognise it later on. I don't think a footnote would be necessary, as I don't see this done in other airport articles including GA ones. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 15:07, 3 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
That's assuming all are familiar with this nomenclature. If you don't want a footnote I would suggest at least wikilinking "09/27" to Runway#Naming. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:56, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I have wikilinked 09/27. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 23:21, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • "It is expected to take two years to construct". Since when?
I removed this sentence. No exact date/year is yet known, and completion could be in 2017 (groundwork started 2015) or 2018 (article published early 2016). - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 00:12, 1 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • I could not locate the stats data from the ref provided.
If you click on each year and then on each month, a list of Annexures (PDF documents) appear. Annexures II and III contain aircraft movement and passenger data respectively. I had to add the data for each month to get the year value. I just cited the entire database - would I have to cite each Annexure individually? - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 03:06, 2 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
That's a huge task you have done. But WP:V could mean that links to individual pdfs be presented. There is nothing wrong in linking all pdfs. It would be easy for others to check. Also, when you cite individual pdfs, make sure you add page number in reference. I would also suggest you add the figure itself in reference using |quote= function. Also, as many references would be used, you can next them all under one reference per year. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:56, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
How would I combine all the references? Please see what I did for the year 2015. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 23:20, 4 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Dharmadhyaksha: I believe I've finished what you recommended. Do you have any other comments? - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 14:08, 11 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the delay @Sunnya343:. Now we go ahead...
  • "Car" and "Bus" can be merged to form a single section "Road". Also, lets place this new "Road" below the "Rail", thus arranging it alphabetically.
Sections merged. Is it OK to keep Road above Rail since the metro rail link is still in very early stages? I would put the more important and currently relevant Road section above Rail. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yeah... that seems reasonable.
  • Wikimedia Commons has many images of destinations of this airport, but none of them have been used in "Airlines and destinations" section. Any reason why?
Images of the destination airports are not included in airport articles. Only images of aircraft at the article airport. See examples: Heathrow Airport (scroll to statistics section), Haneda Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, Delhi Airport. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I still wonder why they kept making those images if they are not being put to use. I was thinking maybe you don't want to use it as its not very easy to keep updating images. So was gonna suggest some other way out. Anyways... this isn't FA.
  • The Passenger destinations table is a mix of both domestic and international destinations. These should be marked differently; maybe use colours along with symbols like #, $, †, ‡, etc. Air India could be tricky one here as it has both domestic and international destinations.
This is not done in other airport articles, see examples above. Also, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/page content, "Do not separate flights into domestic (national) and international." - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok.
  • Also, what common source is being used for this passenger's table?
Per Wikipedia:WikiProject Airports/page content, #10 under Body: "For current destinations, the implicit reference is the airline's published timetable. If the flight is in the timetable and not challenged, an explicit reference is not normally included." - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Dharmadhyaksha: Thanks so much! So nice to see the little green circle in the corner now. My next good article goal is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Regarding the destination map issue you raised, I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you were taking about images of the actual destination airports, like London Heathrow etc. Anyways there is consensus not to have maps of the destinations as they are considered redundant info. Operator is Bangalore International edit

@LeoFrank: It appears the operator is Bangalore International Airport Limited, not Bengaluru International Airport Limited. See these official sources (not news articles which may substitute in Bengaluru knowing it's the official name):

Besides, BIAL was formed in 2001, well before the official name change to Bengaluru in 2014. - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 19:59, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Sunnya343: You seem to be ignorant to facts. Every other press release used to consider the name of the airport as Bangalore International Airport prior to renaming it as KIA. Even Ghits gave more results for Bangalore instead of Bengaluru. The airport was named Bengaluru International Airport based on the name of the operator which is Bengaluru International Airport Limited. Only the name of the airport has changed, but the operator name remains the same. There's no substitute of the name here. Going by your claims, then the previous name of the airport too would've just been a substitute which is of course wrong!  LeoFrank  Talk 16:00, 23 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@LeoFrank: Sorry I don't understand. I'm saying the company was incorporated as Bangalore International Airport Ltd in 2001, back when the city of Bengaluru was still officially Bangalore. The corporate name of the company appears to have stayed the same all these years. Consider the official Fairfax press release from March 2016 explaining that Fairfax will be taking a stake in Bangalore International Airport Ltd. This is a press release from an actual company taking a stake in BIAL, thus I trust it for the name of BIAL. Bloomberg also states the name of the operator this way.
Regarding what I said about news organisations substituting Bengaluru for Bangalore, I would not trust them as they may realise Bengaluru is the official name of the city now. Still, the legal name of this company formed in 2001 appears to remain Bangalore International Airport Ltd. When KIA opened its doors in 2008, it was named Bengaluru International Airport after the new name of the city - forget the legal BIAL name.
Also the official website says Bangalore in BIAL. here - ✈Sunnya343✈ (talk) 16:27, 23 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Statistics edit

Hello fellow editors, recently I made changes to update the "Statistics" to include the 2017 Annual traffic stats that was recently published by Airports Authority of India. The table that is already showing the stats for the last 8 years is showing the Calendar year stats & a corresponding reference is provided. Airports Authority of India publishes stats on a monthly basis but it does also include stats from last April to the current month, hence in the month of March one can see the entire AAI's Financial year stats. To get the calendar year stats, the way its done in all previous years thats mentioned in this table is Jan monthly stats + Feb monthly stats + Mar monthly stats + Dec month(Apr-Dec) stats totaling to calendar year stats. I provided the same for the year 2017 & did the following changes [3] but User:LeoFrank reverted the changes citing the entire financial year stats required, but since this section mentions calendar year stats & we have that data published by "AAI Traffic News" am I missing some thing here? Please let me know? Rakesh (talk) 6:45, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

Changes in the Airlines/Destinations edit

In the airlines/destinations column, American Airlines has announced the Seattle Tacoma to KIAL route from October of 2020 please edit this column and include this flight as it can be useful to techies flying between the modern hubs, thank you very much.[4] GauravSunil1612 (talk) 15:43, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not done: Per WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT, a firm date is required for addition of new routes to the destinations table. October 2020 is not a firm date, the day of the month is also required.  LeoFrank  Talk 16:32, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Why is the AA update in Airlines and Destinations list being removed even after proper links have been shared? BIA30387 (talk) 20:23, 1 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@BIA30387: As clearly mentioned in your talk page, we need a reliable source to add a new destination. You have cited a blog which is not a reliable source.  LeoFrank  Talk 04:29, 2 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Elliot321: I have reverted your addition. We do not add temporary flights in the table. SFO is operated under the air bubble pact by Air India and it ends in October 2021. Unless you have a source that explicitly states the regularisation of the flight, kindly do not add it again.  LeoFrank  Talk 07:16, 27 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
