In paragraphs two of the Augusta Emerita article, the city is described as 20,000 square kilometers (7,700 square miles) in size. Something this size would be a massive City, taking up a big chunk of southern Spain itself. Perhaps the measurement was 20.0 square kilometers (7.7 sq. mi.), or a smaller unit of measurement was intended. Fixed Thanks for pointing this out. I've corrected the info per the source (which is not the greatest) to read "The city, one of the largest in Hispania, was the capital of the Roman province of Lusitania, controlling an area of over 20,000 square kilometres (7,700 sq mi)."
