Ascenders edit

Should this content be moved to a more general article on ascenders?? ...maelgwntalk 03:07, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely. Jumar is a specific brand of ascender, but there are several other brands. All of them work essentially the same way, with a toothed cam that allows it to move in a single direction on the rope. Currently, everything in this article is common knowledge, at least among climbers, and I see no need for references or citations. It's rather like asking for a citation in an article that states that gravity is the force that holds us to the ground. Martylunsford (talk) 03:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Tend to agree. That's partly why I made the "Gibbs" suggestion. But I prefer to think that this sort of page should be useful to those who rather do not know about climbing (and maybe also not enough about the effects of gravity!) Martinevans123 (talk) 00:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

There's an awful lot of detail on aid climbing; should this just refer to the aid climbing entry? --Rob Cranfill (talk) 19:01, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Have made changes that clarify ascender history and mention Petzl tools, probably the most popular ascenders in the world. Ian mckenzie (talk) 06:24, 11 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
