Talk:Anglo-Austrian Alliance

It seems odd to start this article in 1725. England and Austria had of course been the two key members of the Grand Alliance of the late 17th/early 18th centuries, and after the Hanoverian succession this connection was renewed. The 1720s were, admittedly, a period largely characterized by hostility between the two powers, but the alliance of 1731 should be seen in context of the earlier alliance. Certainly, on the British side, statesmen like Newcastle always saw the alliance with Austria in light of the two powers' alliance in the wars against Louis XIV. john k (talk) 18:42, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
