Colonial style?

This is not an accurate account of colonial

The colonial is often mistaken for the Georgian. The Georgian house, named so because of the king of England at the time, was more "artistic". Its “developers” desired to replicate the architecture back in England”

The colonial is just a basic “saltbox” with clapboard siding, shutters, widows close to the eaves. The houses would often have additions added on as the family grew. This would typically consist of Rooms with a “slanted shack style roof” over them. They were more or less utilitarian. Rooms clustered around the chimneys at both ends

More than just British

American Colonial Architecture includes much more than just the British-inspired designs, but also French, Dutch, German and Spanish. This article should be expanded to include these. - if necessary "Georgian Colonial", etc should be broken off once substantial enough.--Marcbela (talk) 19:23, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

There is an article at Revivalism (architecture) which could perhaps be merged to here, or at least some of its material combined here. Perhaps there is higher level hierarchy to merge to also? Respectfully strongly disagree, (not on Revivalism (architecture) merge just above) on American colonial architecture merger as it is a sub-section of Revivalism (architecture), the latter includes non-colonial styles of architecture. I disagree also. Aside from what is mentioned above (there are other revivals other than Colonial Revival included in Revivalism (architecture)), Colonial Architecture is mainly from the 1600s and 1700s and the revival styles are from the late 1800s and early 1900s. They are two completely different movements.

However, I do think there should be some mention of Colonial Revival Architecture near the end of this article. --A.Fox 15:01, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Disagree - architectural revivalism was a vast, international movement of many different styles in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and deserves an article of its own (indeed, the one that exists really undersells how significant it was). Morgan Riley (talk) 21:30, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Colonial Architecture

I don't think Colonial Architecture should automatically redirect to American Colonial Architecture, but perhaps to either a search page or a disambiguation page with American Colonial Architecture being one option. I'd add to the article if it was more generic. I have some great pictures of Australian, New Zealand, and South-East Asian colonial architecture I could upload.
