Dispute tags edit

Someone tagged this article but failed to follow up on the talk page with any specific issues. The writing of the previous article included a long essay section, which while the content looks reasonable, has a very POV tone and has no inline citations (although references were provided).

I've re-written the biography, lede, and wrote a short summary of his major work, with multiple inline citations from reputable scholars for each statement. I've tried to work in references to the major critiques/misunderstandings of his work : that he was a total secularist, that he was writing about Salafi or Islamist politics, or that he was a lacky of Western imperial rule. The previous essay I've cordoned off into its own section, as it seems the general thrust is a mainstream and accepted interpretation.

I'm removing the "Neutrality" tag as this seems excessive -- the language is not neutral but the interpretation of his work is (as much as is possible for a controversial figure).

I might note that I see -- especially in French sources -- his name is often transliterated as Ali Abdelraziq. T L Miles (talk) 16:20, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
