I wouldn't exactly consider this to be "blatant advertising". I have to the best of my ability tried to list facts as to who they are, and what businesses they take part in. The article is not yet complete. Of course, assistance in doing so would be muchly appreciated.

resource, not directly related, but has background info. edit

Hello, I apologize for making edits directly to the Alghanim Industries page. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the editing process. I have updated my user page to clearly state my corporate association and my compliance with Wikipedia policies. I will undo all previous edits and instead suggest the changes here on the talk page to be reviewed by Wiki editors. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I look forward to further collaboration with the Wiki community. Adam at Alghanim Industries (talk) 08:40, 19 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I would like to request the following edits to the company's information box on the right of the page:

1. Change Type from "Joint Stock" to "Privately Owned" (as listed on the company's website and as referred to it in multiple articles and press releases. http://www.alghanim.com/Corpweb/CorporateProfile/index.htm)

2. Cleaned up the Industry section to read as follows: Advertising and Media, Automotive Sales and Services, Building and Home Construction Products, Consumer Credit, Consumer Electronics Retail, Consumer Engineering, FMCG Wholesale and Distribution, Food and Beverage, Home Furnishings Retail, Insurance, Insulation Manufacturing, Office Automation, Oil and Gas, Projects Engineering, Shipping and Transportation Services, Talent Development, Travel. (Capitalized some letters, alphabetized order, added/modified category names. All listed on company's Corporate profile page on its website: http://www.alghanim.com/Corpweb/CorporateProfile/index.htm)

3. Change the Headquarters from "Shuwaikh, Kuwait" to "Al Hamra Tower, Kuwait City, Kuwait" (can be found using a quick search of the company on Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Alghanim+Industries+Head+Office/@29.3577069,47.9145324,13z/data=!4m8!1m2!2m1!1salghanim+industries!3m4!1s0x3fcf9acc86852a9d:0x6baac01d72535d34!8m2!3d29.378901!4d47.9935902)

4. Change Revenue from "$61 million" to "$2.5 billion" (mentioned as a figure from the company's 2009 financial results, can be found at this link http://www.arabianbusiness.com/exclusive-inside-mind-of-omar-alghanim-582001.html#.V0F0U0eqlu5)

5. Change Number of employees from "12,000" to "14,000" (as mentioned on the company's Corporate profile page on its website and the Arabian Business link above.)

Hi Adam. Thank you for your compliance with Wikipedia's COI guidelines, and for reverting your own edits. I have a few questions about your suggestions.
  1. I don't understand why "Joint Stock" should be changed to "Privately Owned." Are the terms mutually exclusive? As far as I can understand from reading Wikipedia's article on Joint-stock company, "Joint Stock" merely means ownership of the company is given to several shareholders, but shares may still be privately traded. Or is Alghanim Industries owned by only one person, could that be why "Joint Stock" is incorrect?
  2.   Done, but I kept the existing capitalization style
  3. According to Alghanim's own website [1], the corporate office is in Shuwaikh, which contradicts the location given by Google Maps. I try not to depend on Google Maps as a source for the location of businesses, since that information is sometimes generated by users. I have even seen businesses placed at incorrect locations by Google Maps. If the headquarters are in Al Hamra Tower, could you have Alghanim update their website to reflect that fact?
  4. I'm not going to include this in the infobox because it is so outdated, but I will mention it in the introduction.
  5.   Done

Hope this helps. Altamel (talk) 02:17, 3 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Altamel, I appreciate your help in going through these edits. The Alghanim Industries website has been updated with the new headquarters location, which you can find here: http://www.alghanim.com/Corpweb/ContactUs/index.htm. As for the $2.5 billion revenue, here is another source that mentions the company's annual turnover: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-wef-alghanim-acquisitions-idUSTRE54F1ZK20090516. Although it is outdated, it's more accurate than the currently listed $61 million which is not sourced. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for helping out @Altamel! Would you mind also taking a look at the suggested edits below if you have some time? Adam at Alghanim Industries (talk) 12:04, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I would like to request a rewrite of the introduction paragraph. My suggestion would change it so it would read as follows:

"Alghanim Industries is one of the largest privately owned conglomerates in the Arabian Gulf region. Based in Kuwait, the company today oversees more than 30 businesses in 40 countries. Principal businesses include automotives, consumer electronics, retail, consumables and industrial materials. In 2009, CEO Omar Kutayba Alghanim told Reuters that the company’s annual revenues were $2.5 billion. Since then, Alghanim Industries has not commented publicly on its financial performance.

The firm has established strongholds in the Middle East, India and Turkey, dealing with over 300 global brands and agencies."

1. I reworked the first 2 sentences to make them more concise. Source can be found on company's corporate profile http://www.alghanim.com/Corpweb/CorporateProfile/index.htm.

2. I removed the sentence about loan disbursement as it is incorrect and is not sourced.

3. I reworded the sentence about the company's revenue and here is a link with the original announcement from Reuters http://www.reuters.com/article/us-wef-alghanim-acquisitions-idUSTRE54F1ZK20090516.

4. I removed the expansion sentence as there is no citation.

Please let me know if any clarification is needed. Adam at Alghanim Industries (talk) 11:13, 9 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Y'know, seeing as the current lead section has a lot of tags on it and reads somewhat promotional, I wonder if a sourced neutral sounding lead section can be produced. Your suggestion is somewhat better but still reads a bit promotional. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 13:47, 9 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Jo-Jo Eumerus, thanks for responding! I agree with you that the current lead section is hard to read and promotional – the missing tags don’t help. The lead I suggested describes the company, references it’s key businesses and gives the reader an idea of the organization’s size. Maybe we can adjust the tone to address your point to the following:
"Alghanim Industries is one of the largest privately owned conglomerates in the Arabian Gulf region. Based in Kuwait, the company oversees more than 30 businesses in 40 countries. Principal businesses include automotive, consumer electronics, retail, consumables and industrial materials. In 2009, CEO Omar Kutayba Alghanim told Reuters that the company’s annual revenues were $2.5 billion. Since then, Alghanim Industries has not commented publicly on its financial performance.
The firm operates in the Middle East, India and Turkey, dealing with over 300 global brands and agencies."
1. Removed “today” in the second sentence as it might suggest that this was a result of continuous success and contribute to a promotional tone
2. Removed the “s” from automotives
3. Changed “strongholds” in the last sentence as it could be construed as promotional, suggesting a position of strength in those markets rather than market presence
The sources listed in my previous post can be used if needed. Let me know what you think.
On a separate note, can you or anyone else tell me what the process is for updating the page's logo in the right-hand box to a more high res image?

As this request does not address the points for improvement of the article (marked by the various citation needed tags, as well as other tags), I will decline it. An editor has already restructured the paragraph. What should be done now is finding reliable sources for the statements expressed, as the source that you suggest for the "largest privately owned conglomerate in the Arabian Gulf" is the company website, which is a primary source, and cannot be relied on to prove such statements. Request declined. Uploading a high resolution logo should not be done, as low resolution are one of the criteria for acceptance, because those cannot be used for production of counterfeit goods.
