"It is possible to beat the game by positioning the fighter in the top left corner of the screen. Enemy fighters can not hit the player's fighter in this position."

This is most definitely not true in the version I run under MAME. I'll edit it to something like "in some versions...".

Hello, I moved the After Burner page to After Burner II and replaced the After Burner entry explaining why. It is largely held in the retrogaming communities that After Burner was either a prototype or saw limited release in Japan only; because After Burner II is for all intents and purposes the same game, with what seem to be the "finishing touches" put on. Since AB and AB2 are almost the same game, I suggest that the articles should be unified. Stormwatch 00:09, 4 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Someone should add some text about the point and story of this game. 62.78.213.76 10:09, 19 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Can we make this page for the series? I want to expand on every gae in the series.--Killerclaw 23:13, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Personally, I think there needs to be an After Burner series article, and both games seperated into their own articles. And can somebody confirm whether or not the original game was on a limited release? I have a hard time believing that.-TonicBH 11:03, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Soundtrack edit

Who composed it? It is also by Hiroshi Miyauchi? // Liftarn (talk)

Genre edit

There's been some back-and-forth about the genre of this game. I'm not sure why someone is so insistent on labelling this as a simulator, when it has no simulator features at all: unlimited ammo, linear stages, on-rails control, automated launch with no altitude control, and third-person view without cockpit -- unless you count the cabinet itself, but home computer versions of the game obviously lacked that. If this is a simulator, then so is every single game where you control an aircraft in some way, including 1942 which is identical to this game except for the viewpoint. The sites that list this as a simulator clearly got their data off Wikipedia, so those are circular references. Here's a source that properly labels it: https://segaretro.org/After_Burner. 94.22.211.101 (talk) 03:28, 25 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merging with After Burner II edit

After Burner II was not really a full-fledged sequel to After Burner, it was an upgrade kit that could be installed to the original After Burner that added new features and levels. I remember reading, not sure where, that the original After Burner was just a prototype version was rushed to the market and After Burner II is the intended full version. And from my understanding, it was only released in Japan, since the export versions of the machine already included all the After Burner II additions.
