Talk:Adultification bias

Latest comment: 1 month ago by 62.254.221.230 in topic Misrepresentation of evidence

I just want to say I find it highly odd that there is no page for "adultification" on Wikipedia how it's known as a form of interpersonal abuse (documented, well-sourced info available on consequences) but this page does not include any info on it. These concepts are connectable beyond a semantic similarity, and I think further examination may lead to a more sound body of reference.

I don't have my WikiCap on today, but if I did, I would propose some constructive edits that would add information explaining that the term adultification is defined as a form of psychological abuse deployed on children generally, prior to when it the word is applied to situations also involving racial bias. I feel like this more soundly explains the term's use.

Have a good one :)

Misrepresentation of evidence edit

Some of the articles cited I have read and what they say is not what this article claims they say. For example: the article says that Goff et al. 2014 found Black boys had their ages over-estimated and were deemed to be more culpable. What Goff et al. 2014 actually found was that when primed that the child was suspect of a misdemeanour the public over-estimated the age of white and Latino boys more than they did Black boys; and it was only when primed that the child was suspect of a felony that this was reversed. Similarly, police officers deemed Black boys to be less culpable when they were suspect of misdemeanours and this only flips around when they are suspected of felonies. This does not support the idea of universal adultification that is proposed by this page. 62.254.221.230 (talk) 15:01, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
