Reception

Does one review from IGN, what used to be only a video game website, mean that the episode isn't "highly esteemed"? What makes this one person's opinion the deciding factor on the quality of this episode? Maybe if there were other documented reviews stating that the episode was poor you could make that claim. The reception section probably should just explain what the IGN review said and not attempt to review the episode itself, in my opinion. What makes any individual critic's review the "deciding factor"? Aggregate scores are the best, but just because the reviewer works for a "used to be" gaming website does not invalidate his criticism. That's an irrelevant point...and if it's really the only documented review you can find, that doesn't mean you should censor it and free-associate what you believe other critics will think. The Vagina - Asshole Dialogue?

I'm not in the position to have all the information, but is there some connection between Oprah and The Vagina Monologues, and could all this Minge/Gary business be some kind of a parody?--Bahati 11:43, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

The other day I saw a sketch on MADtv that had something to do with Oprah and The Vagina Monologues, but I can't remember exactly what happened. I'm not sure if there's a connection, but you have a good point there... Shivers 02:37, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

References to other South Park episodes

When Gary dies you can hear him/Oprah defecate. This is a reference to "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes" and has become a semi-recurring joke in the series. Mac OS X 10:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Of mice and men reference?

Is the relationship between mingy and gary really anything like george and lenny? Gary isn't particularly stupid, maybe naive, but not retarded like lenny, and I don't remember george taking hostages! Unless someone has a source to say that they meant it to be a direct comparison, I think whoever posted this was reading the book when they saw the episode and drew comparisons where there are none. Claims of Parody are based on analysis and therefore WP:OR

Bytebear is returning material to the article using arguments that countermand each other: His first claim was that the parody was so obvious that it doesnt need a citation. [1] (To which I disagree - analysis of the content to declare that it is a parody falls under WP:OR) But, assuming he is correct, if the parody is so obvious, then linking to the book is in opposition to WP:OVERLINK - you dont link to obvious materials. It's mentioned now, but rather than a parody South Park redeems it into an America-first dialog: the blue towel to compares Bill Clinton favorably vs. China's Jiang Zemin. The final holdout symbolizes each US president indistinguishably "winning" with general AI/mastering physics (each president is a hostage who can "cure all diseases"), or alternatively China's leaders being 2nd class strongmen. God is on America's side / America will keep winning despite Oprah getting shot once in a while.

Yeah..the episode is somewhat difficult to understand even if you are familiar with the controversy over Frey's book. What proportion of the South Park audience is going to pick up on references to the publishing world, even if they're at the tabloid-scandal level?drone5 (talk) 09:02, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
