Spam Magnet

User:2005 -- The spam-magnet nature of Cassava's affiliate programs surely deserves mention. This article itself was just vandalized by an affiliate hoping to capture traffic for their account by placing their affiliate information into all of the outgoing URLs. I know of at least one blog which has blocked the specific string 'pacific poker' in comments and trackbacks specifically due to the overwhelming about of spam from affiliates hoping to cash in. I can't imagine what you are thinking here. They have an affiliate program. Some people spam involving it. So? That is the case with any affiliate program where there is money to be made, and certainly not news nor a reason to specifically mention in this article compared to any other. 2005 06:19, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

The reason I had mentioned it at all was to clarify that it is not Cassava doing the spamming, but third-party affiliates. I've had to clarify that in the past for people who thought that Cassava was directly encouraging people to spam. --Stephen Deken 14:59, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

It is belaboring the point, but Amazon's program has massive amounts of spam and "near spam" as all those junk copied datafeed sites are spam of a kind. More to answer your question though, there is more money in gambling affliate programs by far so of course there is more spam. 2005 07:47, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Adware nature

Why is there no mention in this article about their underhand advertising methods. For example - this company has pop-ups on untrustworthy sites, all of their websites try to get users to download software, the website makes your browser window full screen and users cannot go back out of their websites without another pop up window. Someone needs to write something about their underhand behaviour.

All that is common on the Internet, and hardly more than extreme trivia. The article isn't about the html on their websites. (And what does any of this have to do with "adware"?) 2005 19:39, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Defamation and article protection

I've seen IP addresses adding unsourced allegations about unfair practices by one of their poker sites. Unless sources are provided—secondary sources like media coverage—the information cannot remain in the article.

Proposed move to 888 Holdings

It would be logical to move this whole article so the title becomes 888 Holdings. If anyone has any objections please advise. Dormskirk (talk) 21:08, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Originally in an afd discussing the various arms of this company it was put here, but 888 Holdings seems much better to me. 2005 (talk) 21:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

888 Holdings is the official name of the publically traded company. Cassava is the majority owner of the company (the previous ownership group kept control when it went public), at least that is my understanding. I can understand the logic of having Cassava as the article, but 888 Holdings is more consistent with the structure we have, and also the listed on the London stock exchange category. 2005 (talk) 21:17, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Gibraltar ???

It is obvious that no top management member, and none of the important facilities is located or acting from Gibraltar, which is needed in order to define this location as the Headquarters.  Partly done: Hi. Thank you for your request. I couldn't add the Partnership bit due to the fact there are no secondary sources. Please request this again if you can provide them. The award wasn't added either due to lack of notability. Finally, the website in the infobox cannot be changed at this time given there's a Wikipedia-wide blacklist for the 888.com URL. I have never requested a delisting, but in this case I don't think it would be successful given the propensity these links would continue to be used for spamming.
